Pye is hiring a Web3 Data Scientist — Protocol Data & DeFi Research
Compensation: $36k - $87k estimated
Location: New York, NY, USA
About Pye
Pye is building the next generation of liquid staking infrastructure on Solana, starting with Liquid Staking Bonds (LSBs) — a new DeFi primitive that transforms stake accounts into tradable bonds. Our mission is to build Solana's yield curve, unlocking new yield products for stakers and new revenue streams for validators.
We are looking for a Data Scientist to help us turn raw blockchain data into actionable insights, research, and public tools that benefit both the Solana community and our internal product development.
Role Overview
As Pye’s Data Scientist, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines for both:
- Pye Protocol - capturing and analyzing protocol-level data to monitor performance, understand user behavior, and guide product development.
- Solana Staking Economics - breaking down validator revenue streams including MEV, block rewards, inflation, and emerging categories like BAM.
You’ll work with large-scale blockchain datasets, transform them into meaningful insights, and present them through visualizations, dashboards, and open-source tools. Your work will be used:
- Externally: to contribute open-source dashboards, APIs, and reports for the Solana ecosystem.
- Internally: to drive product decisions, strategy, and customer-facing analytics for our bond marketplace.
In addition to protocol analytics, you’ll have the opportunity to explore quantitative research problems — modeling financial strategies across Solana DeFi protocols and assessing their feasibility and risk.
What You’ll Do
- Build data pipelines to ingest and process on-chain data from Solana, focusing on validator economics and Pye protocol activity.
- Analyze and break down revenue components: MEV, block rewards, inflation, and other emerging categories.
- Create interactive dashboards (Heroku, Plotly/Dash, Matplotlib, Dune.) for internal decision-making, user-facing analytics, and open-source community tools.
- Research DeFi protocol data to model, backtest, and stress-test financial strategies.
- Collaborate with the product team to design KPIs and metrics for our bond marketplace.
- Produce data-driven research reports for Pye’s blog and ecosystem outreach.
- Work with other partner protocols, validators, and researchers to expand access to staking and yield data.
Requirements
- Proficient in Python with experience building ETL pipelines.
- Strong background in data visualization using tools like Plotly/Dash, Matplotlib, or similar libraries.
- Experience working with blockchain data — preferably Solana — using APIs, RPC endpoints, and data indexers.
- Understanding of staking economics and validator revenue mechanics (MEV, block rewards, inflation, etc.).
- Ability to transform raw blockchain data into clear, actionable dashboards.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills for financial modeling and backtesting.
- Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to produce publishable research.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Solana-specific tools (e.g., Jito, StateWiz, Helius APIs).
- Familiarity with DeFi mechanisms like AMMs, yield aggregators, and lending markets.
- Background in financial engineering or quantitative research.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects.
Why Join Us
- Work at the intersection of stakin data, financial engineering, and DeFi.
- Ship open-source tools that impact the broader Solana community.
- Collaborate with a small, fast-moving, deeply technical team.
- Tackle some of the hardest problems in on-chain market structure and staking economics.
