About the Vertical Applications product group

Vertical Apps is at the forefront of the blockchain fintech revolution. Vertical Applications group, creates new products across all verticals (consumer, institution, enterprise, protocols and DAOs, and developers), with an eye towards improving user experience with services that are monetizable. We build, deploy and maintain critical applications across ConsenSys’s industry leading products, including MetaMask, Quorum, Infura,and Codefi. The Vertical Applications team is composed of decentralised product teams across all verticals distributed across Europe and US and working mostly remotely.

With our products like MetaMask, Infura, and Quorum serving as gateways for over a million worldwide users to interact with new blockchain, “web3” and “DeFi” applications like Uniswap, Maker, Compound, we need innovative problem solvers who are interested in tackling the complex challenges that exist in the blockchain and financial ecosystems and scaling developer and user-facing systems to tens of millions of users.

About the role 

We are currently building our data capabilities and looking for both Data Scientists. As the second hire on our Data team, your job will be to shape our data analytics practices, improve our technical data capabilities, and strengthen our business intelligence.  We want to improve how we define, measure, analyze, inform, and control outcomes for products. We want to improve how we analyze, design and validate new products and services. We would like your help building processes for both, so we can test hypotheses and measure progress towards goals. 

What you’ll do 

  • Work across the organization to help us better measure outputs; and give us better insight to control our inputs.  
  • Develop data collection, data management, data analytics strategies that optimize efficiency and quality.  
  • Establish standards for data integrity tied to our data dictionary. 
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain datasets.
  • Ensure product managers have the data they need, and all requirements have pipelines to the Consensys Data Org (FiveTran, Big Query, DBT, Looker). 
  • Develop Codefi dashboards for a common operating picture, self-serve data sets for product teams, and auto-generated reports for stakeholders.  
  • Perform hands on detailed data research and analysis of large on chain and off chain data sets using statistical techniques
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues.  
  • Improve feedback loops, reporting insights, and visualization outputs.
  • Independently drive projects; work with fellow data scientists and product teams to identify improvements in efficiency and governance for their current data processes; teach them how to utilize the designed reporting and functionality in their processes.

Required Skills

  • 4y+ proven working experience as a Data Analyst / Scientist. 
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with databases (SQL, etc), programming (Python, Scala, R) and ETL frameworks
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience working with software development teams; blockchain, crypto currency or fintech products (consumer or enterprise).  
  • Tools: Familiarity with similar tools such as Looker, Mixpanel, Segment, Google Analytics; working w/ go to market data sources (Salesforce, Hubspot, social media), and blockchain data sources (Dune Analytics, the Graph). 

 

Would be great if you brought this to the role

  • Have a passion for crypto, DeFi, Fintech, web3, open platforms, and equal financial opportunity. Demonstrated awareness or interest in the Ethereum landscape, and financial primitives and protocols that live on top of it.
  • Understanding of the Ethereum 1.0 Protocol, on-chain storage and data structures
  • Experience supporting the full cycle of software product development from conception to launch. Experience shaping strategy for consumer products (e-commerce, identity, social media, gaming, etc) or Fintech applications, SaaS, APIs.
  • You think about the big picture, details, and continuous product improvement. You can turn emerging, unclear, or opposing inputs into action plans.  
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication for audiences with different technical backgrounds, and are technical enough to ask engineers good questions about architecture and product decisions.  
  • You are data driven, focusing on product inputs and outputs, such as operational performance and latency, to user engagement and retention, and product revenue and churn. You are obsessed with user experience and continuous discovery.
  • Familiar with product analytics tools and processes such as Mixpanel, Segment, Looker, Tableau, ZenDesk, Qualtrics, Dune, the Graph.
