EigenLabs is hiring a
Web3 General Counsel

Compensation: $74k - $80k *

Location: WA Seattle, Washington, United States

About EigenLabs:

EigenLabs is building a protocol called EigenLayer that provides crypto-economic security as a service to decentralized applications such as rollups, bridges, and oracles. Typically these projects are designed to be secured by their own token. However, because it is difficult to bootstrap the value of a new token, this often leads to situations where projects lack sufficient capital to strongly secure their networks.

With EigenLayer, projects come to Ethereum for staked security in place of or in addition to their own token. Stakers in the Ethereum proof-of-stake (PoS) network opt in to “re-stake” their Ether to crypto-economically secure these projects. The projects and their users pay fees back to stakers in exchange for stronger security guarantees.

EigenLayer makes it possible for developers to build new decentralized applications that launch with high crypto-economic security, but without the need to bootstrap a large amount of value into their own token. This modularization of crypto-economic security unlocks new possibilities for open and permissionless innovation.

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial executive to serve as General Counsel. You will be responsible for counseling the EigenLabs team and the EigenLayer community as we invent a new ecosystem of open innovation on top of Ethereum. You will lead and work with legal vendors and in-house team members to identify, create and scale solutions that work in our fast-changing business and regulatory environments across the globe. This is a full-time position that is fully remote in US time zones or located near our office in Seattle.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide practical, in-depth thought leadership on legal issues and risks on all matters relating to the company's business operations, including corporate governance, compliance, intellectual property, and contractual matters.
  • Advise on domestic and international corporate governance, regulatory compliance, international registrations, compliance, management of related entities, intellectual property, consumer protection, privacy, and other legal issues.
  • Publish reports, frameworks, and other thought leadership that helps the EigenLayer community expand successfully.
  • Proactively drive policy as appropriate within the relevant blockchain industry segments, regulators or other thought leadership and industry bodies.
  • Build and manage a global legal team including in-house and outside counsel.
  • Promote a culture of legal and regulatory compliance throughout the organization through education, training, and regular communication.

In order to do this work effectively, you will need to:

  • Stay up-to-date on relevant U.S. and international laws and regulations and public policy matters, especially those related to financial regulation and blockchain related matters.
  • Lead and manage numerous initiatives and meet tight deadlines when necessary to achieve business objectives
  • Expertly advise and collaborate with internal teams and other community participants on the strategy, development, integration and expansion of existing and new financial products.
  • Be comfortable challenging the status quo and preconceived notions of what is possible as well as working in areas where regulation is still evolving.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment, strong analytical rigor, clear communication, and business pragmatism.
  • Be open to travel as and when required.

About You:

  • JD or equivalent degree from a highly accredited university.
  • Current license in a U.S. state.
  • 7+ years of experience practicing law with a major Law Firm and working in-house preferably at a technology company with broad experience across IP, commercial, licensing, policy and corporate issues.
  • Experience with legal personnel management, including building and running a smoothly functioning legal team and working directly with vendor teams.
  • Familiarity with the following laws and agencies is a plus: securities regulations, banking and payment services regulations, global privacy regulations, data localization laws, sanctions laws, and international business entity and governance regulations.
  • Experience in the blockchain and crypto space is a plus.

If you are a visionary legal leader with a passion for blockchain technology and a drive to help shape the future of the industry, we want to hear from you.
