Web3 Head of Data Engineering

Compensation: $98k - $180k estimated

Location: Remote

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Data Engineering. This is a high impact role, where you will lead the strategy, development and management of advanced data engineering solutions. This position requires exceptional technical capabilities and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with quantitative researchers, facilitating seamless cooperation to process, analyze, and manage a large and diverse corpus of datasets that enable our quantitative investment process.

* This role will be based in London, NYC or Zug (Switzerland), with the ability to travel periodically *

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the data engineering strategy, aligning it with the firm's research objectives and ensuring an efficient and scalable data processing platform
  • Recruit, manage and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a high-performing culture and providing guidance on best practices, coding standards, and technical solutions
  • Demonstrate an extensive understanding of data engineering principles, architectures, and technologies; identify emerging trends and promote applicability to our use cases
  • Work closely with quantitative researchers to understand their data requirements, provide technical solutions, and integrate data engineering processes effectively with quantitative strategies
  • Design, develop, and optimize robust data pipelines, enabling ETL processes that support quantitative research, analysis, alpha forecasting, and execution
  • Implement rigorous data quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of data inputs and outputs
  • Evaluate, select, and manage the appropriate data engineering tools, technologies, and infrastructure, with a focus on scalability and automation
  • Collaborate with compliance and risk management teams to ensure data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance standards are adhered to
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, enabling them to understand the value and impact of specific data engineering initiatives

Skillset and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years experience in data engineering, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. Previous experience at a quantitative hedge fund is strongly preferred.
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++, along with experience in big data technologies. Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and optimizing data pipelines, data modeling, ETL processes, data warehousing, and data governance
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with quantitative researchers and other stakeholders, translating their requirements into technical solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of analyzing complex datasets, identifying patterns, and extracting meaningful insights
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team, manage priorities, and drive projects to completion
  • Thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, adaptable to changing priorities and emerging technologies
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

The salary for this role is anticipated to be between $150,000 and $225,000. This anticipated salary range is based on information as of the time this post was created. This role may also be eligible for additional forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental and other benefits plans. Actual compensation will be carefully determined based on a number of candidate factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
