Scope of the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Communications to join our VP of Communications to build Nova Labs, Helium Mobile & 1663 brand awareness and voice. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that align with our corporate objectives. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in public relations, product communications, internal communications, crisis and reputation management, executive thought leadership, and macro communications.
Working with the VP of Comms, in this role, you will:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies to enhance Nova Labs and its Helium Mobile, and 1663 brand’s visibility and reputation.
- Media Relations:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
- Proactively seek opportunities for positive media coverage and manage media inquiries.
- Product Comms:
- Lead product communication initiatives, including the development of product launch strategies and communication plans.
- Work closely with the product team to articulate key product features and benefits for external audiences.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to integrate product messaging into broader campaigns.
- Owned content:
- Support and execute an owned content strategy that builds brand narrative in tandem with our external media relations and pitching strategies.
- Work with the social media manager to build a narrative based online presence that expands and amplifies our core messaging with content
- Thought Leadership:
- Partner with company executives to establish and enhance their thought leadership strategies.
- Develop and execute strategies for positioning executives as industry experts through content creation, speaking engagements, and media opportunities.
- Craft executive communications, including social media posts, speeches, articles, and blog posts.
- As the business finds relevant, the Communications Director will support Corporate, Crisis and Government Relations activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a communications role, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
- Demonstrated experience in public relations, internal communications, crisis communications, and executive thought leadership.
- Strong understanding of the media landscape and experience with media relations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and compelling way.
- Proven ability to develop and execute successful communication strategies.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team.
- Team player that supports others.
- Sense of humor and appreciation for the bigger picture.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior executives.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- An interest in telecommunications and blockchain technology.
- Some travel is required throughout the year.
Compensation:
- Total compensation structure at Nova Labs is base salary + equity.
- Nova Labs is a remote-first company and takes a market-based approach to base salary pay.
- Pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. For candidates outside of metro market areas, we use the state average.
- The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
- Nova Labs targets the 50th percentile of the pay scale for new hires.
- The salary pay scale for the target experience and target skill set US locations:
- Tier 1 (San Francisco / New York City): $178,000 - $242,000
- Tier 2 (Boston, Seattle, DC, San Diego, Los Angeles, CA State Avg): $160,200 - 217,800
- Tier 3 (Austin, Dallas, Denver, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Phoenix, Portland, Philadelphia, Sacramento): $151,300 - $205,700
- Tier 4: Other, Miami, Columbus, Raleigh-Durham, SLC, Orlando, Eugene, NH, San Antonio): $142,400 = $193,600
