Web3 Fraud Data Scientist

BlockFi is looking for a Fraud Data Scientist to join our growing team!

About Your Team

As a Fraud Data Scientist, you will work to provide a data driven, seamless and frictionless online experience for consumers while mitigating fraudulent activity. This position will be accountable to execute operational processes aimed at identifying and investigating existing and emerging fraud methodologies, uncovering and defining product and client points of compromise, and evaluating and articulating root cause criteria for known fraud events. You will provide financial and operational impacts related to client fraud events, and recommend remediation paths. This person will have the technical prowess to write and execute data extraction and transformation pipelines, but also forensically investigate data, and tell compelling stories to a non-technical business audience. You will be part of the overall Security team and supported by all of our security team functions: security operations and incident response, security engineering, threat intelligence, red team, etc.

Your Mission

Perform data-driven forensic analysis of fraud events for the purpose of identifying and consistently categorizing the root cause of fraud events observed or attempted

• Generate investigative reports that provide explanation and visibility to both fraud risk and lay audiences
• Write Python and SQL code to identify, categorize, and analyze new and existing fraud vulnerabilities across large and disparate data sets
• Create automated ETL and feature pipelines that support the fraud business practice and forensic event analysis
• Develop and automate key performance and risk indicators that inform the ongoing effectiveness of the fraud prevention business practice
• Develop and prototype reports that enable rapid fraud strategy development
• Effectively articulate actions recommended, based on insights derived from data-driven investigation and analytics

Your Expertise

• 5+ years of experience as a fraud data scientist or similar role
• Extensive and demonstrated experience with building fraud investigation, incident response and data-driven analysis at scale
• Passion and drive to fight fraud and protect clients, the business and the ecosystem from criminal activity
• Education and/or experience typically obtained through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Information Science, or Analytics.
• Demonstrated experience with SQL, Python, and data analytics tooling
• Expertise in driving operational efficiencies and scale through process improvements and automation
• Experience with digital payments and/or payment networks
• Some knowledge of the cryptocurrency ecosystem (BTC, ETH, Stablecoin, etc.) and underlying technologies (blockchain, wallets, etc.), and specific fraud trends in the crypto industry
