The Role

The Business Development Partner, Crypto will work with a16z crypto portfolio companies to help achieve their ambitious growth goals. You will have the opportunity to work with disruptive founders and companies across the web3 ecosystem.

This role sits at the intersection of partnership-led, product-led, and developer-led growth; a successful candidate will have a breadth of experience and knowledge across the web3 stack. This includes: infrastructure and scaling solutions like bridges, L1 and L2 blockchains; middleware, developer tools and platforms including API providers and custodians; dApps and protocols at the smart contract layer including DeFi, Gaming and NFTs; distribution channels like exchanges, liquidity providers and market makers.

This individual will be on the crypto GTM team, reporting to the Head of GTM and working closely with the crypto GTM team members, crypto General Partners, investment team, events team, and other cross functional teams responsible for crypto.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, purpose driven partnerships professional who can help develop and guide the partnership strategy with both a16z portfolio companies and corporates that are interested in understanding the space.

The preferred location for this role is New York City, NY. The role may require in-office presence from time to time.

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of the web3 stack and expertise with crypto-native products like DeFi, stablecoins and yield solutions
  • Exhibit strong understanding of previous crypto cycles, crypto’s cultural impact and its community dynamics
  • Advise our portfolio companies on their go-to-market strategies; including topics like developer relations, community engagement, product-market fit, and partnerships
  • Apply learnings from executing partnerships across the global crypto ecosystem into actionable insights that inform and optimize those strategies
  • Help build and maintain a global network of traditional and crypto-native organizations to drive go-to-market success for the firm and our portfolio
  • Facilitate introductions, meetings, events, and collaborations across the a16z crypto network and our portfolio
  • Develop workshops, content, and scalable programs to assist portfolio companies’ growth
  • Share relevant market insights with a16z crypto investment partners to better advise the market receptivity and the evolving investment thesis

Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion for blockchain technology and its transformative potential across industries
  • 6-8 years of business development or growth experience, ideally with a focus on blockchain technology
  • Expertise in DeFi and/or stablecoins, lending, yield solutions, or similar products
  • Experience putting together sales and marketing motions both in the web2 and web3 space
  • Understanding of blockchain and crypto applications in Consumer, Enterprise, Financial, Retail and Public Sector organizations
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with executives (both written and verbal)
  • Exhibit critical thinking and a growth mindset to thrive in rapidly evolving space
  • Demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented work ethic with a focus on collective success
  • Self-starter and comfortable working independently
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and external teams

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $334,000 - $390,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
