Who we are looking for:

We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and forward-thinking Head of Legal to lead our legal function and guide our Legal, Risk, and Compliance (“LRC”) Group at South-east Asia’s fastest-growing Web3 company. As a pivotal member of our leadership team, you will drive legal excellence, navigate complex regulatory landscapes, and spearhead innovative legal strategies to support our company's growth and success in the exciting world of Web3. Our LRC team has received industry recognition from Asian Legal Business in 2023 as one of Asia’s Top 15 In-House Teams and in 2024 as a finalist for Blockchain In-House Team of the Year.

What you'll do:

• Provide strategic legal guidance and leadership across all aspects of the business, including corporate governance, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, data privacy, disputes and decentralized finance (DeFi).
• Support a team of legal, risk and compliance professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture while overseeing day-to-day legal operations and priorities.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks associated with new products, initiatives, and partnerships.
• Drive the development and implementation of robust compliance programs, ensuring adherence to AML/KYC obligations, data protection laws, and other regulatory requirements.
• Stay abreast of evolving regulatory developments and industry trends in the crypto and blockchain space, providing strategic counsel and thought leadership to inform business decisions.
• Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and review of complex agreements, including user agreements, licensing agreements, and strategic partnerships, leveraging external resources as needed.
• Manage and prepare documents for corporate secretarial matters, including board governance, shareholder relations, and regulatory filings, to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Review and analyze consumer law aspects including terms and conditions, as well as marketing materials for compliance.
• Demonstrate proficiency in dispute resolution and adeptly manage external legal counsel in consumer law matters.

What you'll need:

• A degree from a recognized and accredited institution, admitted to a common law jurisdiction, with a strong academic record and demonstrated expertise in fintech, M&A, regulatory compliance, or related fields.
• Minimum 5+ years of post-qualification experience, including significant experience in both leading law firms and in-house legal departments, preferably within the fintech or blockchain industry.
• Proven track record of navigating legal complexities in fast-paced, high-growth environments, with the ability to thrive in ambiguous and rapidly evolving situations.
• Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach to team management and stakeholder engagement.
• Deep understanding of the legal and regulatory challenges unique to the Web3 ecosystem, with a passion for driving innovation and pushing boundaries in the decentralized finance space.
• Strong business acumen and strategic mindset, with the ability to balance legal risks with business objectives and drive impactful outcomes.
