Orca is hiring a
Web3 Senior Product Designer

Compensation: $98k - $120k estimated

Location: New York, NY, USA

Orca’s mission is to become the leading provider of on-chain financial primitives. We see a future where much of the world’s financial system is powered by DeFi, and we’re looking to hire a Senior Product Designer to accelerate our progress towards that vision.

What you’ll do

  • Mentor other Orca designers to create experiences that elevate Orca’s design identity and brand presence
  • Pitch ideas for what Orca builds next through our adaptation of Shape Up
  • Create breadboards that address key product requirements before developing hi-fi mocks based on user research, data analytics, and your intuition for great design
  • Conduct qualitative design research to understand the mindset of Orca’s target users

What you’ll bring

  • Proven track record: You have at least 3 years of professional experience working as part of an established design team. You’ve led the design of major software products. You feel comfortable interviewing users, writing clear and crisp copy, and creating designs that inspire—not just for their looks, but for their focus on usability.
  • Interest in DeFi: You use (or are excited to use) Orca and other DeFi protocols regularly and are excited to conduct research, design, and iterate to create the best possible experience for Orca’s target audience—and yourself!
  • Balanced mindset: You’re comfortable working independently in an async environment, but also enjoy coming together to collaborate as a team. You’re passionate about certain technologies and design patterns, but also recognize their trade-offs in different scenarios. You don’t see everything in absolutes, and identify the underlying dimensions to make decisions.
  • Excellent communicator: You articulate your thoughts and ideas clearly—and pass the mic to empower others to be heard.

What we offer

  • Opportunity to shape Solana DeFi at an established protocol.
  • Competitive salary and ORCA token allocation.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Option to work remotely or from our office in New York City. Note: North American hours are prioritized for meetings.
  • Work alongside a global team of talented and passionate Orca contributors.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product, engineering, and business development to gain insights and skills from various functions.

To apply:

Submit an application to [email protected] with the subject [Senior Product Designer]: {your full name}, and include the following:

  • CV or LinkedIn profile
  • When you're able to start
  • A link to your portfolio or past work
  • Short hypothetical situation:
    • Imagine you are redesigning Orca’s token selection interface with other designers. Here is what we have so far: https://imagedelivery.net/SqOs1_hiiskxNj7RJqq3zQ/7b493dac-00ff-4ea7-b6e6-b72b77ce1d00/public
    • The idea is that a user can select a token by tapping on an item in the token list. However, if the user taps on the truncated mint address chip (4ThR…FxoD), the token’s full mint address is copied, and the token is not selected. If the user taps on the external link icon, the user is directed to a new window showing the token’s block explorer page, and the token is not selected.
    • During a design crit, Designer 1 observes that overlaying tappable elements on top of each other could be considered an anti-pattern and result in unintentional user interaction. Designer 1 also notes that the buttons are smaller than the recommended minimum of 44x44 pixels for interactive elements. Designer 2 agrees with these design principles, but sees them as guidelines rather than hard rules. Designer 2 also notes that Orca’s users will already be familiar with this type of interface as it is common throughout DeFi.
    • Questions:
      • How would you navigate this situation? Share what you might say directly to these designers in a conversation.
      • Do you have any other feedback on the token selection interface? Again, frame this answer as if you were speaking to other designers directly.
