Web3 Dev Ops Engineer - Hedge fund

Who we are:

The Quarry is a new asset management firm, that launched a multi-manager investment platform in September 2022.

We believe there is a generational opportunity to create a new kind of investment platform, purpose-built to allocate capital to portfolio managers and traders across the rapidly developing cryptocurrency and DeFi ecosystem, as well as traditional asset classes, in a cohesive portfolio.


Our leadership brings significant experience allocating institutional capital to cryptocurrency trading strategies, and deep expertise building and scaling multi-strategy investment funds. This experience informs our vision, our strategy, and our conviction.

Summary of the role:

We are looking for a Dev Ops Engineer, who will apply their expertise in developing analytical libraries and tools, back / front-end applications, various trading, and operational systems, and more to enhance risk management, operational infrastructure, reporting, and optimize investment strategies of the firm.


The incoming developer will work closely with the firm’s current developer to continue the buildout and deployment of internal operational systems, quantitative analysis tools, risk management systems, and trading infrastructures. With that, you will work alongside many employees of the firm, gaining exposure to every component that makes a hedge fund successful, while reporting to the CFO / CCO and Founder / CIO. While there exists “day-one” / required workflows, you will also contribute to the firm’s ongoing innovation in technology and investment through both collaborative and individual motivation.

The position will be located in our headquarters in midtown NYC.

You will be responsible for:

• Support the operations team to automate tri-party asset reconciliation processes and develop cash, margin, and asset management tools across various vendors (bank accounts, custodians, and exchanges)

• Build tools to track various trading fees / expenses (exchange fees, PB fees, borrow / lending fees, etc.)

• Develop solutions to monitor fund’s risk and compliance parameters (leverage, capital utilization etc.)

• Build reporting tools to calculate and distribute fund’s performance, fund metrics, fund fact sheet and other ad-hoc reports

• Develop secure trading / asset-management systems leveraging open-source technologies, such as Mongo DB and Python / SQL languages

• Integrate with cloud infrastructure providers to tackle storage and compute challenges across large datasets and parallel computations

• Partner closely with technology teams to ensure appropriate standards and integration

• Contribute to the thought process behind analytics library development by proposing and researching new technologies


What we want from you:

• Graduate degree in Computer Science or a quantitative disciple from a top university preferred OR undergraduate degree in quantitative disciple with significant, relevant experience.

• 3+ years of professional experience with Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Requests, asynchronous libraries) development, financial experience highly preferred

• A strong understanding of WebSocket and REST API technology, creating asynchronous clients, as well as cloud infrastructure (AWS and / or Azure) o Confidence in abilities to both deploy and manage secure cloud-based applications (e.g., AWS EC2 deployment with Ubuntu)

• Proficiency in using query languages and databases such as SQL (MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL) and / or NoSQL DBs (MongoDB, GraphQL)

• Follow a security-first approach to building, deploying, and delivering clean and well laid-out code while consistently documenting all developments

• Ability to work closely with other areas of the firm while successfully prioritizing conflicting requests and ongoing projects

• Strong work ethic, do-the-right-thing mentality, self-starter, ability to take ownership and deliver excellence, a passion for creatively arriving at solutions

What’s a plus from you:

• Experience with developing on-chain (crypto / DeFi) programs o On-chain data collection (utilizing node providers / indexers such as Infura or Alchemy and directly reading smart contracts)

o On-chain trading and wallet systems (automated txn signing, programmatic interaction with protocols / smart contracts)


Summarized technical abilities/experiences:

• Languages - Required: Python, Batch / Bash / Shell / CLI(s) (Windows / Linux); Plus: TS / JS, C / C# / C++, Java, Rust, GO, HTML / CSS, Solidity

• Synchronous and Asynchronous REST and WebSocket API clients

• Databases - Required: MongoDB, at least one SQL database; Plus: Other SQL databases, GraphQL Vector databases

• Cloud Service Providers - Required: AWS OR Azure
