Web3 Senior Database Engineer / Data Scientist

The Platform Intelligence team is looking for motivated scientists with strong analytical skills to evolve one of the most sophisticated production management platforms in the world.

This in a senior position that will involve Data Engineering, and require extensive experience with both relational and graph data.

Applicants should posses strong skills in a modern memory safe language (i.e. Go, R, Rust, or Julia), in addition to Python, as there will be an absolute need to embrace all of these languages to be successful in this role.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a diversity of experience with multiple MODERN databases, as well as a high level of proficiency with Linux. Strong preference for candidates with extensive ANSI SQL experience in 100% ACID compliant environments, including regular query authoring duties.

The position reports jointly to the Platform Architect and Director of Global Platform Engineering, ensuring distributed global resources perform according to requirements. Engineers are expected to take guidance from more senior members of the team whilst working somewhat autonomously.

Our stack includes code in C, Go, Julia & Python. We employ Terraform, Packer, Ansible, and Docker throughout our Ops environment, and you will be expected to utilize these tools for regular maintenance of database resources in Development, including migrations.

What you'll be expected to demonstrate

• Minimum M.S. or equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related analytical disciplines.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern, memory safe language, i.e. Julia, R, Go, Rust, as well as strong proficiency in python
• Query writing proficiency with ANSI SQL
• Schema development proficiency
• Familiarity with modern cloud native micro services architectures (as opposed to relying on stored procedures, etc.)
• An understanding of regression modeling, forecasting techniques, time series analysis, machine-learning concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, classification, random forest, etc.
• Support code with a focus on database efficiency and resilience
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform will be a major plus
• A willingness to adapt to new technologies or best practices
  
• Exhibit good habits (development techniques, security, tech debt balance, TDD, and agile habits)
• Strong skills in data migration and migration between multiple different databases
• Debug poor performance queries in both ANSI SQL and PostgreSQL
• Find and address performance issues throughout the applications database access layer
• Support the health and runtime of database resources in the environment

What You Bring

• 10+ years of relevant Database design and support in fast-paced global cloud environments
• Experience with infrastructure as code. and cloud automation
• Willingness to work in a code defined infrastructure environment with adherence to strict CD/CI/CD
• Strong understanding of core security principles
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Expertise regarding query performance and addressing issues with common SQL behaviors.
• Proficient with SQL
• Experience with Pulsar, Kafka, or other cloud-based eventing and messaging solutions
• Experience with Cloud Platforms such as GCP or AWS
• Self-driven; a passion for taking ownership of your work and delivering outcomes
• Some experience with Kubernetes, Docker, auto-scaling, pub-sub architectures, serverless a plus

Nice to Have

• Ph.D. or MS in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related analytical disciplines
• Experience in leveraging analytics to drive the generation of business value in related business sectors such as Production, Logistics and Supply Chains, Transportation, or large-scale Engineering.
• Experience working with global scale platforms
• Experience within Google Cloud Platform
