Your mission:
As our Technical Designer, you’ll help develop and deliver high-quality gameplay assemblies for our AAA projects, across our high-profile co-development partners. You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing game designs and iterating them into high-quality playables for our partner’s games. You will also be acting as an interface between our design and engineering teams, by helping develop, iterate and maintain new features and tools before they are deployed to the rest of the team.
What you’ll be doing:
- The work could be at any stage of a game’s gestation, from concept and prototype, through mid-development, to soft launch and live updates
- You will embrace and exemplify MPG’s Design methodology: championing quality and with a deep understanding of the client’s design process
- You will display cross-discipline expertise and act as an interface between design and engineering
- You will act as a technical expert on the topic and ensure the tools, documents, technical support and dissemination of best practices
- Periodically provide feedback, including suggestions to improve tools and methods, bugs, etc
- As an expert user, help test new features and tools before they are deployed to the rest of the team
- Carry out production tasks as a game designer and prototype the gameplay features during game design
- Design and implement elements that are more complex, abstract or technically challenging and which impact the entire game
What we need from you:
- Passion for making and playing a broad range of games
- Previous experience in technical design, scripting or level design on at least one published title
- Excellent verbal, written and diagrammatic communication skills and experience with wiki-based design documentation
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines
- A shipped multiplayer game that you worked on from pre-production to launch
- Ability to understand and communicate in technical language
- Curiosity and drive to understand how things work
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Adaptability, autonomy, proactivity
- Structure, attention to detail, efficiency
- Ability to clearly express ideas (spoken and written)
- Experience of prototyping gameplay mechanics using UE4/UE5 Blueprints
- Experience with a scripting or programming language
What would help:
- Experience in a generalist role, working across all facets of game design
- Experience in meta/monetisation mechanisms for Free-to-Play design
- Experience designing games for console and/or PC
- Experience in UI/UX design
