The Role
As a Performance Systems Software Engineer on the Anza team, you will specialize in optimizing the agave validator software. This involves analyzing and debugging the existing code, working with vertical subject matter experts to understand the goals, then designing and benchmarking new solutions to meet performance and reliability requirements. You will play a critical role in enabling the growth in Anza’s Agave client and the broader Solana network. Your work will directly contribute to the performance, robustness, and reliability of our blockchain infrastructure, ensuring it remains secure against emerging threats and scalable to accommodate future growth.
Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze metrics to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Work with subject matter experts to understand code component performance requirements and goals; both present and future.
- Design, implement, and benchmark solutions to improve performance and reliability
What You'll Bring
- A proven track record of shipping and optimizing high performance software.
- Experience with performance optimization and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent performance problems.
- Intimate familiarity with multi-threaded programming, on Linux.
- Knowledge and expertise with low-level systems engineering, including debugging and profiling.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Rust, C++, or similar, with a focus on writing performant, maintainable, and scalable code.
- Rigorous testing standards.
- Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions.
- Proficient in English, sufficient for success in a remote and asynchronous work environment
- Effective communication skills: regularly achieves consensus with peers, and clear status updates.
- An inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility.
- Self-motivated and self-managing, with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fully remote work environment.
- A positive and solution-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with blockchain technology, particularly the Solana ecosystem and its unique runtime and VM architecture.
- Experience writing custom eBPF for performance profiling.
- Has implemented/worked on high performance databases.
- Thrives with open-ended problems.
- Enjoys working in the open on open source software.
