Overview & Essential Duties
The NHL is the premier professional ice hockey league in the world, with 32 member Clubs vying for the most cherished and historic trophy in sports – the Stanley Cup®. For over 100 years the NHL has entertained fans with dazzling displays of skill, teamwork, heartache, and triumph.
We are seeking a Director to join the NHL’s Innovation team and support the development and implementation of league wide NFT initiatives with the goal to enhance the fan experience while generating incremental revenue for the League and its member Clubs.
This position requires a combination of project management, partner development, revenue generation and execution capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent problem solving and communication skills with a passion for the intersection of sports and technology. This is an exciting new opportunity to shape the future of NHL’s fastest growing business unit and collaborate across the entire organization.
This role will:

• Manage the league’s portfolio of NFT initiatives by serving as the primary point of contact for external technology partners and internal League departments (NHL Studios, marketing, Social Media, Sponsorship, Legal, etc.)
• Work closely with strategic partners and vendors to maximize NFT and related blockchain opportunities
• Oversee the development and deployment of league wide NFT programs and platforms with external partners and vendors; Set dates/milestones with development teams, vendors, and internal resources and ensure the team is delivering
• Lead cross-functional team through meetings and regular communications to ensure each functional group has a line of sight into the full process and is delivering on their area of each product being developed
• Analyze market value and growth potential (i.e. “market sizing”) of NFT market and related blockchain opportunities through market research, quantitative analysis, and knowledge of marketplace dynamics; Collaborate with NHL executives to green light certain opportunities and develop League business models associated with these initiatives
• Identify opportunities for participation in programs from League partners including media rights holders, sponsors, technology partners, and others
• Facilitate the execution of pilot projects and showcases to test and demonstrate new platforms in appropriate NHL environments
• Build and maintain a deep professional network with companies, investors, industry experts and other stakeholders across the NFT and Web3 industry
• Support the negotiation and drafting of term sheets and partnership agreements
• Set up reporting on a regular basis to inform future product development efforts
• Utilize data to ensure the maximization of the revenue opportunity; set up operations to be nimble to react in real time to shifts in behaviors and trends
• Develop and communicate findings and analysis in executive-level presentations

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field from accredited 4-year college or university is preferred
• MBA or other advanced degree preferred
• 7+ years of professional experience, preferably at a strategy consulting firm, major media company, or technology company
• Experience working as part of a team focused on delivering tier 1 products and firm understanding of cross-functional development projects
• Curiosity in testing and trialing new and emerging technologies
• Advanced understanding of the NFT ecosystem: Platforms, Creators, Community Managers, Influencers, OEMs, Publishers, Developers, Agencies, Manufacturers, Gaming & Sports or Media
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; Success in building strong working relationships with senior executives both inside and outside the organization
• Comfort juggling multiple projects, prioritizing stakeholder needs, and working under tight deadlines
• Proactive, self-starter who can work independently within set objectives
