Web3 Director of Talent

Thesis is a cryptocurrency venture studio whose mission is to empower the individual. We seek, fund, and build products and protocols in cryptocurrency and decentralized businesses that enable personal empowerment. Our projects include Keep (now Threshold) Network, a privacy protocol for public blockchains, Fold, for earning Bitcoin on your purchases in the physical and virtual worlds, Saddle, a community owned, open source stablecoin swap protocol, and Tally Ho, a community owned and operated cryptocurrency wallet. Investors in the company include Andreessen Horowitz, Polychain Capital, and Draper Associates, among others. We are a remote-first company, led by founders who have been operating in the cryptocurrency and web3 space since 2014.
This role is ideal for the individual who could take on a senior talent or market-facing role at a larger company, but instead wants to take ownership in an earlier stage entrepreneurial environment to shape company strategy alongside a smaller group of colleagues who optimize for agency, ownership, and making decisions quickly.
About You:
Thesis is looking for an individual with strong interpersonal skills alongside a proven track record of engaging and winning crypto and/or technical startup talent. You should be a well connected networker with experience owning the talent sourcing function of a growing organization. Your primary responsibility will be to fill our top of funnel for open roles, future and current. We’d like to see a proven history of identifying, engaging and closing top candidates. The ideal individual is a natural at supporting the candidate throughout the hiring process — providing guidance and an outstanding candidate experience.
This role is designed for a crypto-native (or crypto-curious) relationship builder — we’re looking for someone to act as a member of all of our ecosystem’s communities while keeping an eye on talent. You should be familiar with Tally Ho, Fold, Keep/tBTC, Threshold, and Saddle, as your day-to-day will require you to help identify talent within their communities. The ideal candidate will feel at home representing Thesis & portfolio companies at events, is a natural networker, skilled communicator, and thrives at representing the strategic interests and brand of Thesis to the external community.
What You’ll Do: This is the first talent-focused role at the Thesis studio. Your initial focus will be on building pipelines of high-quality, passive and active candidates by utilizing creative sourcing strategies while focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. You will own the entire recruitment process and talent cycle, from sourcing to the interview, feedback and offer process.
You’ll be expected to manage a pipeline of top talent by maintaining a pool of warm interested candidates with consistent touch-points, utilizing internet searches, referrals, networking and other channels. You will develop and maintain a continually stocked pipeline of quality talent through various methods, including networking within online communities, attending events, and fostering continued contact with quality candidates who may qualify for future positions. You will be responsible for driving search efforts, working closely with hiring managers, people ops, and leadership to deeply understand role requirements.
You will be responsible for attracting candidates (active and passive), evaluating resumes, conducting the interviews, case study, and assessment process, and transition to PeopleOps and hiring managers for the offer & onboarding.
0-3 Months
  • Work with the Ops team to learn existing recruitment tools & processes
  • Take on ownership of sourcing & recruitment processes for the Thesis studio
  • On-board executive search firm(s) to help fill key leadership positions for Q3/4 2022
  • Support internal Thesis teams in filling open roles in Ops, Finance, Engineering, and Marketing.
3-6 Months
  • Audit and improve our current hiring processes & tools.
  • Develop and execute tactical sourcing strategies aimed at generating regular passive candidate flow.
  • Focus on filling key Thesis leadership roles with executive recruiters.
  • Work with leadership & marketing to improve employer brand presence across the ecosystem.
6-12 months
  • Scale recruitment processes & team to be able to serve as a talent partner to portfolio companies.
  • Network & build relationships with key community groups & top schools (build a cadence of presence at alumni & career events, crypto communities).
  • Build systems that give us the ability to leverage talent market insights and data to guide strategic decisions alongside hiring managers.
Other Expectations
  • Travel 3-4 times a year (a combination of ecosystem events and team onsites).
  • Leveling up hiring managers to design the best interview process, build case studies, and skills assessment frameworks.
  • Survey and note feedback from candidates throughout the process & work with the Ops and PeopleOps team to improve the employee lifecycle experience.
Ideally What You’ll Have:
  • 3-5 years of full-cycle recruiting experience, ideally in a high-growth tech environment
  • Comfortable vetting, hiring, and managing external recruiters
  • Established connections in the crypto space preferred, in the broader tech/startup space required
  • Experience with Greenhouse and other ATS software
  • Experience with a relatively small company (20-30 employees) and/or experience with company growth through 100+ people
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills
  • The ability to work well independently
  • An understanding of HR best practices and employment law (US, Europe)
  • An understanding of software industry, crypto and technical vocabulary
  • Top notch written communication skills and experience crafting personalized messages
  • Ability to strategize and partner with senior leadership across all cross-functional teams
  • Management experience of recruitment, talent, or PeopleOps teams
  • Nice to have: Technical recruitment experience

All Thesis roles are remote first, with a preference for Europe & Americas time zones
