Software Defined Radio (SDR) Test Engineer
Astranis designs high performance Software Defined Radio (SDR) based payloads to deliver internet across the world. As an SDR Test Engineer, your work is an important part of the team's iterative approach to building successful radios. You will start off creating, streamlining, and executing test plans for our payload SDRs for testing on the ground and in orbit. Eventually, your work could grow to encompass testing, characterization, and calibration anywhere from the unit level (SDR box) to the spacecraft level (the entire end to end payload). You will have to think at scale - we need to improve our software and hardware infrastructure to drastically reduce testing and characterization effort per spacecraft.
Role
- Ownership of high performance SDR testing, characterization, and calibration
- Build up (from scratch!) a scalable and automated process for efficiently testing more SDRs than you've ever seen before
- Guide decision making on all test related activities, starting from designing for test
- Work closely with many teams, including RF engineers, high speed digital hardware engineers, and FPGA engineers to solve multidisciplinary payload issues
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional teammates to our rapidly-growing team.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent background knowledge)
- Fundamentals in "signals and systems" and digital communications
- Familiar with hardware components and their associated impairments / limitations (noise, nonlinearity, etc)
- Experience with Python (or other high-level scripting languages)
- Comfortable working in the lab, testing radio hardware using signal generators, signal analyzers, network analyzers, etc
- A passion for working in a fast-paced environment and constantly learning
- Don't meet them all? Not a problem. Please apply even if you do not meet all these criteria.
Bonus
- 2+ years of experience testing communications systems
- Experience with test automation
- Experience with FPGAs or software defined radios (SDR)
- Experience designing PCBs using Altium or similar
- Familiarity with test and qualification of electronics for space
U.S. Citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency, or Refugee/Asylee Status Required
(To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the United States, or other protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3))
Our mission and our products are meant to connect the world and everyone in it, regardless of gender, race, creed, or any other distinction. We believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we encourage all people to join our team and bring their unique perspective to help make us stronger.
