Web3 Chief Technology Officer

Compensation: $45k - $100k estimated

BlockFi is looking for a Chief Technology Officer to lead our Engineering Organization.

As CTO, you will own the technical vision and strategy to enable aggressive future scale in order to meet the needs of our rapidly growing client base. Our industry is dynamic by nature. You will need to derive short, medium, and long term solutions to adapt to changing markets while tackling complex technical challenges along the way.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical delivery of our company’s products and services with a set vision for future growth and adaptability to market trends and the needs of our clients
  • Define and execute a strategic approach for effectively scaling our platform while leading a global team of 300 Engineers in a dynamic, complex organization
  • Assess our technology capabilities and identify current gaps, derive effective solutions for remediation based on capacity planning and resource allocation methods. Identify opportunities for partnerships where appropriate and applicable
  • Collaborate with Leaders in Product, Security, Operations, Finance, and Legal to develop the engineering roadmap and allocate resources
  • Create and ensure execution of all timelines for the development and deployment of all technological services. Formulate an efficient game plan for delivering stable, well-tested features on time
  • Champion a culture of operational transparency, executional excellence and professional accountability
  • Make executive decisions on behalf of the company's technological requirements. Communicate our technology strategy to our partners as well as investors
  • Passion for keeping abreast of industry trends and technological advancements that will aid in the delivery of products to market
  • Consolidate all disbursed engineering groups into a single best-in-class organization under singular leadership vision. This includes rationalizing locations and headcount to achieve an optimal organizational efficiency
  • Respond & incorporate feedback from stakeholders to make improvements or adjustments to our products & services
  • Managing technology budgets and capacity spend in collaboration with the CFO for effective capture of the ROI while balancing business-driven revenue enablement.
  • Lead the engineering team to adopt and embrace agile methodologies, with the goal of boosting productivity and cross-functional collaboration
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners in Marketing, Finance, Legal, Institutional, etc to own & provide custom internal tools and services
  • Ensure growth and professional development of the Engineering team. Align team member’s skills, strengths and interests with the right work priorities to achieve the best results. Coach, train and provide continuously challenging work in a strongly engaged environment.
  • Continuously monitor our infrastructure to ensure systems are functioning and optimized for working efficiently with the goal of a reduction of security events while effectively partnering with the Security Organization to remediate.
  • Partner with Security, Product, etc. to remediate production breaks and issues. Deliver real time updates, thorough post-mortems and creating frameworks to prevent repeatable errors
  • Ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards - both US and international.
  • Build processes for data protection and quality assurance using key performance indicators and industry standard metrics
  • Ensure our products and services meet regulatory standards within financial services and data privacy, keep up to date with latest global trends and mandates
  • Oversee any changes in system and platform architecture, including all software architecture decisions
  • Develop, deploy and implement necessary disaster recovery planning

About You:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or another similar field
  • Successful track record of 10+ years as a CTO or in another similar leadership role running a fast paced global technology organization in financial services or highly regulated industry
  • Experience with organization design and structure for engineering teams that will foster a culture of transparency and accountability
  • Previous experience leading a large, globally distributed engineering team
  • Previous experience in an engineering leadership role within a highly regulated industry, ideally FinTech or other financial services working with institutional and retail products
  • Exceptional organizational management and leadership skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payments, transaction services, and industry-wide financial management systems
  • Understanding and capacity to create models that manage the financial spend of the company on technology
  • Business planning that sets the appropriate strategy for growth against deliverables
  • Experience with a global organization, having built strong partnerships with stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Excellent EQ that understands how to bring strong perspectives together for a common outcome in a positive way
  • Analytical and strategic thinker with a solutions-oriented approach to solving problems
  • Understanding of complex cryptographic systems, including cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies is desired but not required
