CoinList is hiring a Web3 Litigation Associate
Compensation: $21k - $70k estimated
Location: San Francisco, California, United States
CoinList, one of the fastest growing crypto financial platforms, is where the best crypto projects in the world build their communities. We support the full lifecycle of crypto projects, from token sales through token distribution, trading, lending, and crypto-specific services such as staking and access to decentralized-finance opportunities. We've helped projects like Filecoin, Blockstack, and Algorand get off the ground and helped crypto enthusiasts by facilitating more than $1.2 billion in crypto trades. We are the crypto platform for the smartest users in the crypto space. Our customer base includes validators, miners, founders, CEOs, crypto funds, and their principals. We are backed by top-tier investors with offices in SF and NY. And we are just getting started.
CoinList has a dynamic legal team that serves an integral function in supporting the company’s expanding corporate needs and product initiatives. As we add complexity to our growing business, we need someone to lead efforts to scale our legal processes around litigation. As part of the team, you would apply your professional background to a fast-paced and cutting-edge environment. You would be responsible for establishing company-wide policies for handling complaints, arbitrations, and litigation and operationalizing these policies. Importantly, you would be part of a supportive team, but own your workflow.
This is a full-time position located in SF, NY, or remote.
Who you are:
- You thrive in a start-up environment. You can quickly understand what's needed and are able to deliver with minimal oversight. You know how to get things done and are capable of understanding what the “finish line” is and can quickly, reasonably and effectively get there. You can swiftly assess how our systems work, see where faults lie, and recommend improvements.
- You bring to the position exceptional organizational skills, high attention to detail, and an ability to manage processes and people.
- You’re not afraid to wear a lot of hats. You roll up your sleeves to tackle any task that’s needed on the team, even if it's outside your comfort zone. You know how to educate yourself.
- You have experience in establishing policies and processes and are familiar with the necessary requirements to successfully manage an arbitration or lawsuit.
- You’re a zealous advocate and excited about cryptocurrency.
What you will do:
- Manage all facets of customer complaints, subpoenas, and regulatory inquiries including leading internal investigations and drafting filings, for example.
- Provide thought leadership and strategic direction to the business and client support teams on customer issues as well as formal proceedings.
- Liaise with outside counsel as needed. This includes identifying relevant materials to assist other counsel in potential defensive litigation.
- Help develop our litigation strategy, both at the macro level with respect to the company’s overall policy and also at the micro level for each particular matter.
- Assess our risks to lawsuits or other actions that may be coming around the bend domestically and abroad. Critical is to be able to anticipate vulnerabilities within this space and advance our thinking on next steps to proactively mitigate those risks.
- Drive processes as the team executes on an accelerated and aggressive global growth plan (including by developing, documenting and improving internal procedures and controls for an increasingly complex and sophisticated operation).
Relevant Background:
- A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset.
- An opportunity-making attitude, using the law to increase the company’s optionality.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in litigation, whether at a top law firm, in-house, or at a financial regulator.
- Admission to practice law in the United States.
- Demonstrated knowledge of crypto products and applicable regulations.
