About the role
Are you looking to be part of a world-class enterprise design team dedicated to crafting incredible user experiences? Would you like to drive impactful work that helps millions of people see and enjoy more of the world? Are you passionate about solving hard problems and creating order out of uncertainty?
Key to this mission, Experience Design organization (XD) is a global, cross-disciplinary team that unites user experience design, content design, and research to enable innovative, relevant, and cohesive experiences that serve the needs of all our travelers, partners, and agents.
We’re looking for a motivated and experienced content designer to help us envision and deliver delightful customer experiences across our portfolio, including Loyalty, Insurance, Media, and our Design System. As a Sr Content Designer on our XD team, you'll help us achieve that mission by bringing clarity, consistency, usability, and delight to our experiences.
You'll cover a large domain area, collaborating on design solutions with product owners, designers, researchers, and engineers, and you’ll demonstrate an inclusive and human-centered approach to your work in product content. Drawing insights from user research, product teardowns, and other sources, you’ll identify, investigate, and craft solutions to content-design problems across the customer journey, and you'll participate in lab testing that enables you to see the impact of your work on the products we build.
What you'll do:
Reporting into our centralized Content Design practice, XD Content Designers drive the content strategy and the approach to content design within large and complex areas of the product (Web and app) ecosystem. As members of our XD community, they exemplify sound practices in human-centered content strategy and design. (We’re looking for team members who can lead by example!) And while no two days in the role are identical, your main responsibilities as a Sr Content Designer will look something like this:
- Design thoughtful, intuitive content solutions for a range of product use cases and interactions
- Apply human-centered practices and solid information architecture methods (e.g., modeling, mapping) in your work.
- Apply sound concepts around UI frameworks, modularity, localization, reuse, and related concepts to craft content solutions that scale.
- Contribute to design sprints and related cross-functional ceremonies that enable our teams to design customer-centered solutions together.
- Participate in content tests that measurably improve the customer experience; and, as needed, help to identify, log, prioritize, and resolve content bugs across the portfolio.
- Contribute frameworks, methods, critique, and documented knowledge to our content practice and our Design System.
- Exhibit storytelling and persuasive techniques that build trust and establish open, collaborative working relationships with teams and partners.
Who you are:
We realize that content strategy and content design are constantly evolving, and we know that no two people enter this field through the same path. So we're not expecting you to be a specialist in everything listed here, but we do ask that you demonstrate expertise commensurate with the job level in whichever methods you apply. We're also looking for people who will contribute frameworks to our growing team and our design system, so we're excited to see how you scale your thinking!
- Experience in core skills such as UX Writing, Content Audits and Analysis, Content Mapping and Modeling, Content Planning and Sourcing, Conversational Design, Information Architecture, and Storytelling. (This is not a content marketing or SEO role.)
- Able to audit, analyze, structure, create, and present content independently using established frameworks.
- Understanding of human-centered design (HCD) practices.
- A thoughtful, empathetic, and inclusive approach to content design that meets every user where they are.
- Exposure to working on content problems across systems and brands.
- Strong skills in facilitation and presentation, and the ability to communicate compelling rationale and narratives to your team and partners.
- A passion for travel and for our mission.
- A portfolio of work that demonstrates your skills. We're especially interested in seeing examples of work you've done for Android and iOS apps, and if you have experience working in a platform or two-sided marketplace, it's a definite plus!
