Part-Time Data Scientist

About Us:

We are a new and rapidly growing blockchain gaming start-up. Our mission is to build a play-and-earn, NFT-based gaming system that appeals to both traditional gamers and blockchain gamers.

The first phase of the project currently in development focuses on a TCG turn-based strategy game that takes inspiration from games such as Hearthstone, Civilization, and Warhammer Underworlds. Our mission is to create unique gameplay that combines strategic battles with deep army building and to provide players with the option of decentralised ownership and blockchain rewards.

We have already released our first NFT collection of medieval warriors on the Ethereum blockchain. This sold out in 13 minutes. Since then, we have raised investment from leading VCs within the blockchain and gaming industries, finished pre-production, and begun development.

About the role:

We are looking for a Masters or Ph.D candidate who would like to work part-time to proactively perform data exploration to understand player behavior and identify opportunities for improving in-game features. Additionally you will work with the Game Design, Development and UI/UX teams to prioritize areas of opportunity to drive engagement and monetization, and enable easier experimentation, develop novel analytics to qualitatively deduce and draw conclusions from player behavioral data that directly influences game design and play balance. You will also measure the impact of features, promotions, store offerings, and events through experimentation and causal inference to fuel recommendations and democratize and socialize learnings by contributing to a centralized repository that informs future game design.

This is a remote working role and at this moment we are unable to provide work visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities:

• Proactively perform data exploration to understand player behavior and identify opportunities for improving in-game features
• Partner with the Development and UI/UX teams to prioritize areas of opportunity to drive engagement and monetization, and enable easier experimentation
• Develop novel analytics to qualitatively deduce and draw conclusions from player behavioral data that directly influences game design, play balance, retention of our live titles
• Partner with studio and engineering teams to ensure smooth and timely instrumentation of gameplay
• Measure the impact of features, promotions, store offerings, and events through experimentation and causal inference to fuel recommendations
• Democratize and socialize learnings by contributing to a centralized repository that informs future game design, and is carried across titles and franchises
• Competently defines execution plans, and suggest projects for prioritization
• Executes analytical projects from ideation to action, finding the best questions to drive the best results
• Effectively manages own time and stakeholder expectations
• Fosters relationship with our stakeholders and partner teams to increase our sphere of influence
• Contributes to company learnings and proactively documents results
• Participates in feedback conversations with supervisor and peers, and can adapt approach when needed
• Drives measurable engagement and revenue impact through analysis and statistical model
  
  

Requirements:

• M.S., or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Math, Economics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or equivalent practical experience
• Breadth and depth knowledge of data science methods and best practices, such as data analysis and visualization, A/B Testing, statistics, regression, classification, clustering models
• Experience programming in SQL, Python;
• 3+ years total experience in analytics
• Deep understanding of AB testing, experimentation, and causal inference methodologies
• Skilled at deriving narrative from data and communicate the results effectively
• Display a unique blend of project skills and business savvy; a passion for exceptional execution within a dynamic environment and the flexibility and focus to achieve result

Nice to have:

• Experience in the online game, crypto and NFT's field
• Interest in Gaming or similar field
• Experience with distributed analytic processing technologies (Spark, Presto, Hive)
