Position Summary
The Event Production Manager is responsible for the supervision, scheduling and coordination of the stage crew, including members of stagehands from the local union hall. The Event Production Manager reports directly to the Sr. Director, Events & Production, and interacts with all staff members. Other duties include establishing maintenance guidelines and departmental operating procedures. The Event Production Manager is responsible for supervising and participating in the operation, maintenance, and repair of stage equipment. In addition, the Event Production Manager is responsible for maintaining a sports team on his or her own, as well as assisting with all concerts and special events. Duties are varied and require independent action in devising new methods and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Manages and supervises in-house crew, stagehand and other technicians, including those not in the direct employ of the facility, engaged in producing a stage or non-stage production, in varying degrees of interactions, possibly from concept to production. This includes determining priorities of event coordination; hanging of soft goods, electric, sound, supplemental rental equipment and building modification.
- Oversees the setting up and working of support equipment for all stage presentations, and assembles stage crews for setting up, working, and tearing down all stage shows.
- Manages and coordinates the scheduling of repair and maintenance of all stage equipment.
- Files reports and payroll processing regarding stage personnel.
- Advance preparation with production crew and personnel regarding technical rider requirements.
- Manages and coordinates related work including building maintenance duties as work schedules demand.
- Collaborates with management staff of various front-of-house events.
- Interface with Los Angeles Fire Department on all permit requirements and obtain approval for special setups.
- Responsible for the frontline coordination of assigned events (Concerts, team events, sports events, etc.)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree (4-year) in Theater Management/Production
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in Production Management
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel); and ability to learn required business systems
- Knowledge of electrically and manually operated stage and sound equipment and the methods, materials, tools, and practices required for their repair and maintenance
- Extensive knowledge of stagehand practices and techniques including IATSE stagehand practices and union contracts is preferred
- Knowledge of the occupation hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- Knowledge of âfront of houseâ patron practices and procedures
- Extremely organized and detailed oriented
- Ability to read, understand and implement artist riders
- Working knowledge of standard trade tools and equipment
- Ability to plan, lay out and supervise sound systems for a variety of shows
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations
- Ability to read stage plots and to detect subtle shades of color
- Ability to coordinate all components in presenting major theatrical productions, awards shows and concerts.
- Ability work flexible schedule, which includes: days, evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Good knowledge of AutoCad software strongly preferred
