BACKGROUND
The NHL is the premier professional ice hockey league in the world, with 32 member Clubs vying for the most cherished and historic trophy in sports – the Stanley Cup®. For over 100 years the NHL has entertained fans with dazzling displays of skill, teamwork, heartache, and triumph.
We are seeking a Director to join the NHL’s Innovation team to develop strategies, identify new business opportunities, and implement technology-driven solutions to grow the game of hockey by enhancing the fan experience, improving the game on the ice, and generating incremental revenue for the League and the NHL ecosystem overall.
This position requires a combination of business development, project management, revenue generation, and execution capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent problem solving and communication skills with a passion for the intersection of sports and technology. This is an exciting new opportunity to shape the future of NHL and collaborate across the entire organization.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of new tech initiatives including but not limited to new in-arena experiences, alternative camera views and video, NFT and blockchain, mixed reality content and experiences, digitally enhanced dasherboards, dynamic advertising, gambling, gaming, enhanced stats, metaverse, web3, and more
- Provide research, modeling, and advance prospecting activities necessary to identify, diligence, and execute innovation opportunities for the League
- Identify and monitor emerging trends and new technologies in the sports and entertainment industry
- Collaborate with NHL executives to develop League business models associated with emerging platforms and League strategic initiatives
- Direct Innovation opportunity identification and prioritization across League departments and Clubs
- Work closely with strategic partners, vendors, and Clubs, as necessary, on development of leaguewide program deployments
- Support the negotiation and drafting of partnership agreements
- Project manage development teams, vendors, and internal resources linked to program delivery
- Participate in the drafting of new Club regulation
- Develop and communicate findings and analysis in executive-level presentations
- 7+ years of professional experience, preferably at a strategy consulting firm, major media company, or technology company
- Experience working as part of a team focused on delivering tier 1 products and firm understanding of cross-functional development projects
- Experience in testing and trialing new and emerging technologies
- Interest in tech systems and their intersection with the sports and entertainment experience
- Understanding of and experience developing revenue opportunities across multiple revenue streams including advertising and sponsorship, direct to consumer, ticketing, and media rights
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; Success in building strong working relationships with senior executives both inside and outside the organization
- Comfort juggling multiple projects, prioritizing stakeholder needs, and working under tight deadlines
- Ability to provide scaled revenue projections and data analysis
- Proactive, self-starter who can work independently within set objectives
- Ability to travel to testing sites, vendor locations, and NHL events
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field from accredited 4-year college or university
- MBA or other advanced degree preferred but not required

SALARY RANGE:
$140-160K
Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
