About us:

Luno is the crypto investment app you can rely on, enabling you to buy, store and explore crypto securely. We’re committed to putting the power of cryptocurrency in everyone's hands sensibly and responsibly.

Since 2013, we’ve helped millions of people around the world invest safely in crypto. We do this by cutting through the hype and supporting customers at every step of the way. All products and cryptocurrencies on our platform must first meet stringent legal, risk and technical security standards. We don’t do memecoins.

Transparency is key for us. Luno stores all crypto on a 1:1 basis and we have rigorous processes in place so you can be confident your investment is secure. We’re available in more than 40 countries around the world and we work closely with respective regulators in all of these markets to be fully compliant, as we believe this is the best way to help everyone, everywhere, invest safely.

About the team:

The Product team is on the front line of a highly competitive and volatile industry, with the responsibility to rapidly select, scope and deliver product opportunities to Luno’s customers in ways that outpace the competition, build a profitable, responsible and sustainable business, and differentiate on the quality and trustworthiness of the experience. That is not easy, so you need to bring your best, and plenty of energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity.

As a team we are instrumental in shaping the product and business strategy, in identifying our target customer segments and their needs, and in holding an industry-leading quality bar for compliance.

The role will report to Simon, Luno’s Chief Technology Officer; meet him here. You’ll be working alongside three other Directors as part of the Product Leadership Team.

The role in a nutshell:

As Product Director you will lead the Product Management and Product Design teams within one of our three cross-functional divisions, known as Fleets. Product Managers and a Product Design Team Lead will report directly to you. Your role is to be the agitator and force multiplier for everything they do; set a high bar on pace, impact and clarity, challenge assumptions the teams are making, ensure they’re aligned with the product strategy, and coach them on product skills, techniques, methods, and tools.

The role is also a leadership role within one of our Fleets, as you have a “dotted reporting line” into a General Manager, and partner with peers such as an Engineering Director and business leaders from operational teams. Together you’ll need energy, presence, conviction, and empathy to ensure our teams are motivated and healthy, and that Luno continues to be an incredible place to work, standing out from the competition.

Your mission will be to:

Set Direction

    • Contribute to creating and evolving the company-wide product strategy
    • Create and maintain the Fleet’s product strategy
    • Develop and communicate (in appropriate forms depending upon the audience, from execs to engineers) the Fleet’s product strategy and roadmap
    • Collaborate closely with marketing on product launch strategy
    • Be a trusted partner for legal and compliance teams, ensuring that mandatory work is understood, prioritised, and tracked
    • Be close to and represent the data or research findings of how customers behave and what they want/need
    • Demonstrate leadership and communication skills with success in influencing all levels cross-functionally

Build the TeamBuild a strong, high-performing, highly engaged team through development, coaching, clear goal setting and attention to morale & culture

    • Create a positive team environment that expects high performance, instils trust, and ensures clear communications and alignment
    • Delegate extremely well, enabling our teams (“pods”) to work effectively and efficiently, with the right level of scrutiny and oversight, without overloading your own diary
    • Establish strong relationships with diverse teams spanning all organisational levels
    • Recruit, manage and guide your team to the next level, ensuring that Luno secures and develops the best talent

Embed Product Excellence to amplify Customer Impact

    • Ensure your teams are focused on the right priorities, aligned with the strategy and our target customer segments, and quantified/prioritised using tools such as WSJF or RICE.
    • Coach on the scope and approach for initiatives - prioritise time to market using a minimum viable product and techniques such as “Wizard of Oz”. Challenge hard on must haves versus nice to haves. Ensure the discipline of hypothesis driven development.
    • Bring a high degree of commerciality, with a focus on customer and business impact, ensuring the commercial sustainability of products we launch, and bringing decision-making back to commercial realities through a global lens acknowledging local nuances.
    • Make decisions, strategy, priority, impact and more visible and understood via roadmaps, one-pagers, reports, and (most important) great conversations.
    • Measure results and progress toward product goals.
    • Lead on selecting product input metrics that influence the strategic business output metrics

A little about you:

  • You have at least 10 years experience in Product with at least 5 years experience in a people leadership role, coaching, mentoring, developing, and driving high performing and fast moving teams.
  • Deep expertise in Product Management, and strong appreciation of Product Design.
  • A highly commercial mindset, with experience in and curiosity for how the business works.
  • Ideally expertise in the direct to consumer (B2C) space, with experience in the B2B and/or B2B2C space being advantageous.
  • A proven track record of delivering results through others.
  • Strong people management and mentoring experience and skills.
  • Highly collaborative with outstanding relationship building skills.
  • You take control and exercise leadership to lead change by initiating action, giving direction and taking responsibility to ensure delivery of objectives/goals/tasks/projects.
  • You are great at planning and organising your day and can manage your time efficiently, in a fast paced and (let's be honest) sometimes hectic environment.
  • Working as a team comes naturally to you – it’s all about driving cooperation and teamwork to deliver results.
  • You will be the one raising your hand when it comes to creative and critical thinking and solution-driven ideas.
  • Nothing holds you back, you have a positive and friendly disposition, with a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Familiarity with cryptocurrencies is highly advantageous
