Foundry is hiring a Web3 Desktop Engineering and Security Intern

DESCRIPTION: The Desktop Engineering and Security Intern is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and passionate individual to join the team at Foundry, a subsidiary of the blockchain industry’s most prolific and active investor, Digital Currency Group. Reporting to the Desktop Engineering and Security Manager, the role of a Desktop Engineering and Security Intern offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in supporting and maintaining desktop infrastructure within an organization, while also contributing to broader IT and security initiatives and learning from experienced professionals in the field.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist with desktop security and support by troubleshooting hardware and software issues for end-users, install and configure software applications, perform hardware maintenance and upgrades, and document support procedures. This position will also participate in IT and security projects, provide user training and support, monitor system performance, contribute to research and development, collaborate with IT team members, and assist in ensuring compliance and security measures are met.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Troubleshooting hardware and software issues for end-users, helping them with technical problems they encounter with their desktop computers, laptops, or other devices.
- Installing and configuring software applications on desktop computers, ensuring they are properly set up and functioning correctly.
- Assist with the maintenance of desktop hardware, such as upgrading RAM or replacing hard drives. This could involve physically working with computer components.
- Assist in ensuring that desktop systems are compliant with relevant regulations and security policies, which could involve tasks such as implementing security updates or conducting security audits.
- Will be asked to create or update documentation related to desktop support procedures, software installations, or hardware configurations. Clear documentation helps ensure consistency and facilitates future troubleshooting.
- Participate in various IT projects, such as software rollouts, system upgrades, or network expansions, providing support as needed and gaining exposure to different aspects of desktop engineering.
- Providing training or assistance to end-users on how to use specific software applications or troubleshoot common issues can be part of the role.
- Monitor desktop systems for performance issues, security vulnerabilities, or software updates that need to be applied, and assist with maintenance tasks as required.
- This position will have opportunities to conduct research on emerging technologies or best practices in desktop engineering, and contribute insights or recommendations based on their findings.
- Working collaboratively with other members of the IT team, including desktop engineers, system administrators, and network engineers, to solve complex problems and contribute to overall team objectives.
Minimum Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Educational Background: Enrolled in or recent graduate of a relevant degree program, such as computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in fundamental IT skills. This includes knowledge of operating systems (such as Windows, macOS, or Linux), networking concepts, hardware components, and basic troubleshooting techniques. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C++) and scripting languages (such as PowerShell or Bash).
- Teamwork and Collaboration: Must be able to work effectively in a team environment, contribute ideas, and collaborate on projects.
- Adaptability and Willingness to Learn: Demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing circumstances. A proactive attitude toward learning and professional development is highly regarded.
- Time Management and Organization: Should be capable of being responsible for managing their own tasks and prioritizing assignments, so strong time management and organizational skills are important for staying on track and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically. Should be capable of identifying and resolving technical issues independently or with minimal guidance.
- Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication skills are required for explaining technical concepts, documenting procedures, and providing support.
- Certifications: While not required, certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals demonstrate a proficiency in specific areas of IT and enhance their qualifications.
