About Us
BlockchainUnmasked is working to make crypto crime solvable. We aim to streamline cryptocurrency forensic investigations through advanced automation combined with cutting-edge solutions. We work with our investigative partners to dramatically accelerate investigation times and boost success rates in interdiction, recovery, and deterrence.
As we expand our impact in combating financial crime in decentralized networks, we're seeking a skilled Blockchain Investigator to join our team and drive high-stakes investigations that protect victims and support global law enforcement.
Role Overview
As a Blockchain Investigator, you will lead and conduct in-depth investigations into cryptocurrency-related fraud, scams, and illicit activities using advanced blockchain tracing techniques, AI-powered tools, and OSINT methodologies. You will analyze complex transaction flows, demix obfuscated funds, identify patterns of criminal behavior, and digest vast datasets to uncover actionable insights. This role requires seamless collaboration with clients, law firms, federal law enforcement agencies, and occasionally victims, ensuring all interactions are handled with utmost professionalism, confidentiality, and precision. You will play a pivotal role in turning raw blockchain data into compelling reports that drive recoveries, prosecutions, and preventive measures.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive blockchain investigations into fraud, money laundering, hacks, phishing, ransomware, and other crypto crimes, utilizing our tools for real-time analysis.
Apply advanced techniques such as demixing (e.g., unraveling mixers and tumblers), pattern recognition, and entity clustering to trace fund flows across multiple blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, etc.).
Digest and preprocess large-scale on-chain and off-chain data, integrating AI/ML for anomaly detection and predictive insights.
Leverage OSINT tools and techniques to correlate blockchain activity with real-world entities, including social media, public records, and dark web monitoring.
Collaborate with clients, law firms, federal law enforcement, and victims to gather requirements, provide updates, and deliver expert testimony or affidavits as needed.
Prepare detailed investigative reports, visualizations, and presentations that clearly articulate findings, methodologies, and recommendations for asset recovery or legal action.
Stay ahead of emerging threats by monitoring blockchain security trends, evolving criminal tactics, and regulatory developments.
Contribute to the enhancement of internal tools and processes, including feedback on Sherlock's AI features for improved investigative efficiency.
Ensure all investigations comply with legal standards, data privacy regulations, and ethical guidelines.
-
Mentor junior team members and participate in cross-functional projects with developers and security experts.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have Skills
3+ years of experience in blockchain investigations, cryptocurrency forensics, or related fields (e.g., financial crime analysis, cyber investigations).
Proficiency in blockchain tracing tools (e.g., Chainalysis Reactor, TRM Labs, Elliptic Investigator, or similar) and OSINT platforms (e.g., Maltego, SpiderFoot).
Strong understanding of blockchain protocols, smart contracts, transaction analysis, and obfuscation techniques like mixers or cross-chain bridges.
Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, SQL, graph databases like Neo4j) for pattern recognition and demixing.
Proven track record of working with law enforcement, legal teams, or clients in high-stakes investigations, including report writing and presentations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive interactions professionally and empathetically.
-
Knowledge of AML/KYC regulations, sanctions compliance, and crypto-specific threats like DeFi exploits or NFT scams.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Certifications such as Certified Cryptocurrency Investigator (CCI), Chainalysis Reactor Certification, or similar.
Background in law enforcement, intelligence analysis, or forensic accounting.
Familiarity with AI/ML applications in blockchain forensics, including anomaly detection or predictive modeling.
Experience with quantum-resistant cryptography or emerging Web3 technologies.
-
Contributions to open-source forensic tools or publications on crypto crime trends.
