Web3 Engineering Manager - KYC & Eligibility Team

As an Engineering Manager for the KYC & Eligibility team, you will lead a team responsible for customer onboarding and KYC processes for Blockchain.com, ensuring that customers can seamlessly and securely access our platform. This role requires a strong technical foundation, leadership capabilities, and a strategic mindset to optimize identity verification processes while balancing compliance requirements and user experience. You will work closely with third-party identity verification providers such as Sumsub, Veriff, and DXC, as well as collaborate with Compliance, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure a scalable, reliable, and efficient onboarding system. WHAT YOU WILL DO Technical Leadership & Execution

Ensure the reliability and scalability of the KYC & Eligibility platform, optimizing identity verification processes. Uphold code quality standards, conduct code reviews, and ensure best practices for security and compliance. Collaborate with identity verification providers (Sumsub, Veriff, DXC, etc.), integrating their solutions effectively into the onboarding flow. Monitor onboarding performance metrics, improving verification success rates and reducing friction in the user journey. Guide the team in debugging and incident resolution, ensuring swift resolution of KYC-related technical issues. Implement and promote observability best practices, using monitoring tools to drive data-driven decision-making for onboarding efficiency.

Team Development & People Management

Mentor and develop engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence within the KYC & Eligibility team. Build a culture of collaboration and transparency, ensuring knowledge sharing and cross-functional teamwork. Provide constructive feedback, ensuring continuous improvement in engineering and onboarding processes. Encourage ownership and accountability, ensuring engineers take initiative in solving onboarding challenges.

Delivery & Process Management

Own the planning and execution of KYC and onboarding-related engineering deliverables. Optimize work breakdown to ensure incremental delivery of improvements to the onboarding experience. Guide the team in prioritizing enhancements, balancing regulatory requirements, platform security, and user experience. Establish efficient and scalable development workflows to handle onboarding edge cases and compliance updates. Collaborate with third-party providers to ensure seamless integration and proactively address provider-related issues.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Business Impact

Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Product teams to ensure regulatory and business requirements are met. Act as a bridge between engineering and compliance teams, ensuring smooth execution of KYC regulations. Work closely with Product teams to improve onboarding conversion rates and reduce user friction. Engage with third-party KYC providers, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met and integrations remain stable. Promote economic thinking, balancing the cost of identity verification providers with overall business impact.

Culture & Leadership

Foster a culture of innovation and process improvement, continuously iterating on the onboarding experience. Lead cross-team collaboration, ensuring knowledge-sharing between KYC, Compliance, and other engineering teams. Advocate for data-driven decision-making, leveraging analytics to optimize onboarding performance. Drive alignment on long-term KYC & Eligibility strategy, ensuring the platform remains compliant and user-friendly.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED Technical Skills

Experience leading teams in identity verification, fraud prevention, or KYC-related engineering. Strong software engineering and system architecture knowledge, particularly in onboarding and verification workflows. Experience with JVM languages (Kotlin, Java). This role is hands-on and requires time spent reviewing and contributing code. Familiarity with KYC and identity verification providers (e.g., Sumsub, Veriff, DXC). Knowledge of security, compliance, and fraud detection best practices in onboarding. Experience with monitoring, observability, and debugging onboarding-related issues. A passion for crypto and the transformations it enables

Leadership & Collaboration

Proven experience mentoring and developing engineers, ensuring strong technical and professional growth. Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working alongside Compliance, Risk, and Product teams. Ability to collaborate with third-party providers, ensuring seamless identity verification integration. Excellent communication skills, capable of bridging technical and non-technical discussions.

Project & Process Management

Experience leading onboarding/KYC engineering projects, from planning to execution. Strong understanding of agile development methodologies and best practices for iterative improvement. Ability to balance regulatory and business priorities, ensuring both compliance and customer experience are optimized.
