Web3 Fraud Ops Manager

Compensation: $85k - $100k estimated

BlockFi is looking for a Fraud Operations Managerto join our growing team!

Your Mission:

  • This person will join our Fraud Operations team taking responsibility for supporting the day to day management of payments related fraud issues as they arise, while also helping to develop proactive tools and processes to help mitigate such fraud.
  • Manage team conducting reviews of suspected fraudulent activity on the platform and use available resources to make risk-based decisions and identify fraudulent activity, such as account take over, new account fraud, ACH and wire fraud, friendly fraud, identity fraud, money laundering, social engineering, and similar fraud schemes
  • You will ensure your team has the training, tools, and guidance necessary to analyze suspicious behavior and make decisions with a high rate of precision, and champion new ways with which to get the job done
  • Work with business leaders, third party partners, and analytics resources to identify fraudulent activity and develop solutions for mitigating it while minimizing false positives
  • Partner with Legal, Security, Product and Engineering teams to help define fraud operations product requirementsand drive new product implementation

  • Work cross-functionally with our Member Services Team to craft and iterate on our account suspension, account closure, and suspicious activity escalation protocols
  • Work with AML, Fraud & Risk, and Client Services teams to conduct ad-hoc and structured investigations into suspicious activity in order to identify patterns of fraud

  • You will help to identify new fraud activities that arise from patterns

  • Handle inquiries and escalations related to fraudulent activity on client accounts

  • Create and maintain fraud prevention controls and playbooks with your team
  • Identify problem areas, trends, and opportunities in our operations, and partner with counterparts in process design to implement enhancements and changes to drive significant operational improvement

Your Expertise:

  • 3-6 years of experience in fraud investigations/operations/research teams highly preferred
  • 1+ years of experience Managing teams
  • Can forge strong relationships within and across multiple disciplines
  • Can communicate clearly and influence without authority
  • Strong ability to think creatively and connect disparate data points to analyze fraud schemes and patterns
  • Able to remain highly organized in a loosely structured, fast-paced environment
  • An innate ability to identify fraud control gaps in the user journey and convenience of ways in which a fraudster may exploit them
  • An understanding of common fraud patterns in financial institutions
  • Familiarity with fund movements (crypto, ACH, wires) and ability to judge risk therein
  • Analytical and process-oriented mindset with experience in or willingness to learn SQL, Python or R
  • Startup/fintech or banking experience highly preferred
