Web3 Head of Design

We’re building web3 technology to revolutionize how narrative universes are created. Our mission is to unleash an entirely new way to create, govern, and license IP on-chain, ultimately forming an ecosystem of “story legos” that can be remixed and composed.

Our guiding belief is that stories are the foundational layer of media –– from books and comics to film, television, and games. However, most top storytelling franchises are controlled by a small handful of studios. They use their leverage to squeeze creators, build walls around their IPs, and treat fans like sources of revenue instead of like partners. This top-down approach prevents many narrative universes from realizing their potential, and it stops many hits from getting built at all.

Story Protocol allows creators to build narrative universes from the bottom up. It empowers the construction of imaginary worlds via open source principles –– the same way that humanity formed the first myths around the campfire, but with ownership and incentive models built-in.

At Story Protocol, we aim to make storytelling accessible, beautiful, and engaging to a wide audience, bridging the gap between web3 technology and widespread adoption. Core to our mission is the user-facing experience and design of our product. As the Product Design Lead at Story Protocol, you will spearhead the look and feel of our web platform, our brand presence, and our overall user experience. You will have the opportunity to build out the design team at Story Protocol, setting processes and adopting best practices based on your vision. We expect that you will contribute a variety of design skills, including design prototyping, UI/UX design, UX research, and brand illustrations. Ultimately, the Product Design Lead will play an integral part in delivering a delightful product experience that bridges our protocol to writers, fans, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Drive the user experience of all websites, products, and brand assets from ideation to post-launch, working cross-functionally with engineering and product
• Collaborate with the leadership team to translate strategic direction and user insights into tangible, functional, and delightful product features
• Distill complex technical, user, business, and strategic requirements into simple UI/UX decisions, prototyping if needed in order to arrive at design decisions
• Create brand assets and illustrations that make the Story Protocol brand recognizable, accessible, and friendly across social media platforms in collaboration with marketing
• Conduct user research to glean insights from our community on Discord and Twitter
• Proactively contribute and advocate for the design standpoint on strategic decisions around the future direction of Story Protocol
• Support with hiring and embedding a strong design culture within Story Protocol

Who you are

• 5+ years of experience in product design at consumer-focused technology companies
• Experience in leading design teams, hiring, and managing individual design contributors
• Proficiency in visual design skills including branding, iconography, and layout
• Proficiency in interaction design, including rapid prototyping and incorporating customer feedback
• Proficiency in product design, including wireframing, and website or mobile app design
• Strong communicator with experience integrating product, strategy, and engineering requirements into a clear design perspective
• Entrepreneurial self-starter who is eager to learn and contribute rapidly
• Enthusiastic, respectful, humble, and passionate about delivering a new form of storytelling to the world
• Work experience or demonstrated interest in crypto is highly preferred, and in storytelling is a bonus
• US West Coast Preferred, Hybrid/Remote considered
