Web3 Product & Regulatory Counsel

About The Role:

Pagoda (fka NEAR INC) is looking for an innovative, business-minded product counsel with deep regulatory expertise, proven passion for Web3 and blockchain technology, and substantial experience working with engineers and product managers.

You will report directly to the General Counsel.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide full product life-cycle counseling of the company’s Web3 developer products, from ideation to development, launch, and operation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. and international laws and regulations.
  • Effectively assess and mitigate legal risks while meeting business objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Product, Engineering, Security, and Business Development teams.
  • Respond promptly to legal requests and deliver thoughtful, practical advice.
  • Draft clear and concise disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use, and other public facing documents.
  • Proactively identify and solve issues facing the business and affiliated companies.
  • Create and maintain Compliance Management System, including policies and procedures, controls, and training.
  • Be a thought leader in the blockchain regulatory space.

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified attorney licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
  • Ideally 8+ years legal experience, preferably with some in-house experience in a financial technology, SAAS, or crypto/blockchain company.
  • Familiarity with the developing crypto legal landscape in the U.S. and internationally, including regulatory regimes for securities and commodities, money transmission / money services business laws, banking and payment services regulations, AML/KYC/sanctions rules, privacy and data governance as applied to new blockchain technologies, ongoing entity compliance and corporate governance.
  • Experience with SaaS, developer tools, integrations, or related products or features, along with associated legal issues such as privacy and data security (GDPR, CCPA), intellectual property, marketing, and consumer protection (FTC, CFPB).
  • Passion for blockchain technology, digital assets, NFTs, DeFis, DAOs, and related products.
  • Scrappy, collaborative, “can do” attitude with a track record of getting things done.

We'd Love If You Have:

  • Experience working at a startup or other fast-growing organizations
  • Experience working as a regulator or with regulators such as the SEC or CFTC

Here’s What Our Interview Process Looks Like:

Depending on calendar availability, from the first stage to the final stage, we do our best to keep the entire process to under three weeks. Our interviews take place via Zoom and typically consists of the following stages:

  • Internal Recruiter Call (30 to 45 minutes)
  • Meet with the Hiring Manager (30-60 minutes)
  • Technical Interviews (4 x 45-60 minutes)
  • Pagoda Values Interview (30 to 45 minutes)
