Who We Are:

Hyperbolic Labs is on a mission to democratize AI by breaking down the barriers to computing power with our Open-Access AI Cloud. By making better use of idle computing resources across the globe, we offer an innovative GPU marketplace and AI inference service that promise affordability and accessibility for all. As pioneers at the intersection of AI and open-source technology, we believe in an open future where AI innovation is limited only by imagination, not by access to resources. We're looking for forward-thinking individuals who share our passion for making AI universally accessible, secure, and affordable. Join us in building a platform that empowers innovators everywhere to turn their visionary AI projects into reality.

As we prepare for growth with our seed round, backed by industry leaders, our teamā€”led by co-founders with PhDs in AI, Math, and Computer Scienceā€”is poised to redefine computing.

About The Role:
Weā€™re seeking a Platform Engineer to develop critical components of our p2p GPU compute marketplace. We are more interested in your practical ability than your experience, so donā€™t feel like you need to meet any hard-coded prerequisites! We just want to work with somebody that truly enjoys writing Kubernetes automation in Golang and can pick up new concepts and skills when pointed in the right direction. If you like building cool stuff and scaling it massively, we think youā€™ll enjoy the work here.

This role requires the candidate to reside in the United States and be open to relocating to San Francisco within six months. Team members are expected to work in-person in the San Francisco Bay Area at least 75% of the time.

Who You Are:
We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have a strong background in Kubernetes, Golang, and cloud-native infrastructure.

  • Are passionate about building and automating large-scale distributed systems.

  • Have experience developing Kubernetes controllers and operators.

  • Are familiar with gRPC, ArgoCD, Helm templating, and GitOps methodologies.

  • Have knowledge of networking tools such as Tailscale, Wireguard, Kilo, and Traefik.

  • Understand multi-cluster federation and cluster operating systems.

  • Are comfortable working with Rook/Ceph, Linux, AI agents, and GPU infrastructure.

  • Love automating big things that have not yet been automated.

  • Can write code that makes complex concepts feel simple and fun to work with.

The Platform Team:

  • We are a small team, currently looking for our third team member.

  • Weā€™ve taken the GPU marketplace from $0 to ~$500k/yr rate of volume in the last six months.

  • We have designed and launched the first ā€˜cluster operating systemā€™ for GPU supply: hyperdOS.

  • We plan to open-source two more operating system distributions for network supply and cloud service provider clusters.

  • We focus on automating big things into small and simple fundamentalsā€”e.g., bootstrapping a whole cluster from scratch and joining it to the marketplace.

  • We write Golang that manages multi-cluster ArgoCD federations and largely automates the work of an entire DevOps department.

Interview Process:
We believe that many fantastic platform engineers may not thrive in typical ā€˜big techā€™ interview processes. Instead, we focus on practical skills and real-world problem-solving:

  1. Phone Screen ā€“ An initial conversation to understand your background and interests.

  2. Take-Home Challenge ā€“ We will ask you to build and demo something fun, cool, or useful (your choice), using Golang and Kubernetes under the hood.

  3. System Design Session ā€“ A collaborative discussion using Excalidraw to explore multi-cluster architecture and problem-solving approaches.

  4. Founder Meetup & Offer!

Hyperbolic is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
