Research Manager
Some examples of your role:
- Research - Conduct deep-dive comprehensive research on various verticals including chains, protocols, middleware and infrastructure tools to keep the team informed of innovations and market dynamics.
- Thesis - Collaborate with the investment team to compose and updated investment thesis based on your in-depth market research, your perspective on the latest technical development and innovations, including emerging protocols, partnerships and regulatory changes.
- Investment opportunities - Proactively identify new investment opportunities and make recommendations for buying, staking, or providing liquidity based on your research and trend analysis.
- Due diligence  - Lead the technical due diligence for the venture portfolio’s prospect deals and assist with deal the due diligence of market potential, and competitive landscape.
- Ad hoc projects - help the desk improve systems and processes: this could be anything from implementing portfolio monitoring, to trade execution, custody integration, or implementing on-chain analysis tools.
Hard Skills requirements
- 1-3 years of professional experience as a Web3 researcher or equivalent.
- Ability to independently conduct technical due diligence on a protocol level. This will require a foundational ability to read and understand code in popular blockchain programming languages (Solidity, Rust, Move, etc.), and a familiarity with version control systems like GitHub for code management and collaboration.
- In-depth understanding of different blockchain architectures, their consensus mechanisms, transaction execution, smart contracts, and decentralized protocols.
- A proven track record of conducting due diligence on a wide array of web3 projects.
- Familiarity with blockchain explorers and monitoring tools for tracking transactions and network activity.
- Experience interacting with DeFi protocols, especially liquidity mining, yield farming, and interacting with lending protocol across chains.
- Advanced command of Excel/Google Sheets, ideally being able to write Macros.
- Basic understanding of core financial products including swaps, options, futures.
- The ability to think analytically and strategically about investment decisions and market trends.
- The ability to work well within a team and be self-guided on a day-to-day basis.
- Strong written and analytical skills for deal analysis and internal reporting.
Preferred requirements
- Bachelors degree in scientific field such as Computer Sciences, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or similar.
- A good network of project founders and the broader community is a plus
- An understanding of venture capital and crypto deal terms
- A portfolio of research pieces we can review to understand your abilities and areas of interest.
- Being interested in publishing your research and representing the Wintermute Ventures brand in the DeFi community at industry conferences, meetups, and on platforms like Twitter spaces etc.
