Web3 Program Manager, NEAR Smart Contract Audits

Compensation: $54k - $75k estimated

Location: CA San Francisco, California, United States

About NEAR And The NEAR Collective

NEAR's mission is to enable community-driven innovation to benefit people around the world. The NEAR platform provides a decentralized application platform that is secure enough to manage high value assets like money or identity and performant enough to make them useful for everyday people, putting the power of Open Finance and the Open Web in their hands.

The NEAR platform, NEAR Protocol and associated tooling are being built by the NEAR Collective, a collection of the best engineers in the world who work across teams, companies and countries similar to other large scale open source projects. Core contributors include a couple of 2-time ICPC world champions, 2 gold medalists, a Latin American champion and multiple other competitive programming finalists.

We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. NEAR is committed to creating an inclusive culture, and we celebrate diversity of all kinds.

About The Role:

Near Inc is looking for a seasoned program manager to elevate it’s smart contract auditing capability in support of the NEAR interconnected ecosystem . As a direct report to Near Inc’s CISO, and a member of Near Inc’s Cybersecurity team, you will establish a program to increase smart contract auditing capacity and availability, assess and ensure quality of smart contract auditors and their audits, support ecosystem projects, and triage audit requests. You will be working with both external and internal smart contract auditing teams as well as partners and collaborators who are developing smart contracts on the NEAR protocol.

Smart Contracts realize the incredible creativity and innovation enabled by the NEAR protocol. They allow for interoperability with other blockchains, the creation of Decentralized Finance and other Decentralized Applications. They are foundational to the growth, usability, and widespread adoption of Web 3.0. Some smart contracts may represent something as fanciful as a creative flourish while others process high value transactions and demand the highest levels of scrutiny and trust. In this role, you will be helping to ensure that smart contracts launched on the NEAR protocol are properly vetted, secured, and safe--reducing overall risk, and increasing trust and adoption in the NEAR ecosystem.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Rapidly establish relationships and retainer contracts with smart contract auditing firms to increase smart contract audit capacity for NEAR ecosystem projects.
  • Rapidly implement an ingest, triage, prioritization, and scheduling system for smart contract audits
  • Establish a reporting mechanism for the smart contract audit pipeline--capacity and availability, open schedules, anticipated completion dates, etc.
  • Engage with Near Inc’s internal teams and ecosystem partners to identify and anticipate the smart contract pipeline
  • Establish and execute a playbook for standard smart contract audit interactions, such as kickoff meetings, developer access, reporting, etc.
  • Devise and implement methodologies to establish a leaderboard of trusted vendors and auditors by various evaluation criteria
  • Provide feedback to smart contract auditors on performance and opportunities for improvement
  • Track issues with audited smart contracts post-deployment
  • Identify opportunities to uplift existing or new smart contract audit vendors with security ecosystem grants
  • Manage related application security and testing vendors
  • Partner with Developer Advocates to drive awareness of the program
  • Work closely with the Near Inc CISO, Engineers, Researchers, and internal Audit team to ensure vendors are delivering high quality audits.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree or related work experience
  • 4+ years of demonstrated work experience in project and program management in a technical field
  • Experience managing delivered services (whether contracted or from an internal function)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Great communications skills, particularly in English
  • Strong collaboration and negotiation skills with technical and nontechnical people
  • Familiarity with project, task, and time management tools such as Trello, LucidChart, Smartsheet, Jira, or other similar tools typically used in technology project management.
  • Highly assertive personality

We'd Love If You Have:

  • Familiarity with NEAR and other crypto or blockchain technologies
  • Some Programming / Developer experience
  • Strong history of working with Developers
  • General understanding of risk as it applies to Application security
  • Experience working at a startup
  • Experience as a services delivery manager at a cybersecurity consulting firm or smart contracts auditing firm
  • Prior experience in a similar role
  • Professional certifications for project or program management

Locations: Anywhere in the world

Working at NEAR: Roles are posted to this portal on behalf of the companies that make up the NEAR Collective and are typically located anywhere in the world because most of the companies are fully remote. Some hubs are located in Switzerland, Germany, Russia, the US and China. Regardless of where you work, this is a high performance culture that values ownership, execution and professionalism but pairs it with curiosity and experimentation. The vision is big but the right team is behind it.

Our Values:

  • ECOSYSTEM-FIRST: always put the health and success of the ecosystem above any individual's interest
  • OPENNESS: operate transparently and consistently share knowledge to build open communities.
  • PRAGMATISM OVER PERFECTION: find the right solution not the ideal solution and beat dogmatism by openly considering all ideas.
  • MAKE IT FEEL SIMPLE: strive to make the complex feel simple so the technology is accessible to all.
  • GROW CONSTANTLY: learn, improve and fail productively so the project and community are always becoming more effective.
