The Department: Trust & Safety
Trust & Safety is a team dedicated to protecting Gemini’s users and its platform from fraudulent and abusive activity while ensuring a seamless customer journey. We are a diverse group of technology and operational professionals who develop new approaches to solving classic problems using cutting edge tools and processes.
The Role: Regional Lead, Trust & Safety
Gemini’s Trust & Safety team is looking for a regional lead to help facilitate its rapid expansion in the European market. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the ongoing management of fraud and customer risk on Gemini’s suite of products in the EMEA region. You will play a major part in building and setting the direction of a high-performing team.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor financial & operational KPIs related to fraud and customer risk within the European market
- Undertake fraud investigation reviews and draft suspicious activity reports, when required
- Liaise with regulators, banking partners and other crypto asset market participants to collaborate on mitigating fraud risk
- Keep up to date with prevalent vectors of fraud in the UK and Europe, identify risk trends of concern and come up with mitigation strategies and product improvements
- Periodically review and iterate on the existing suite of controls and checks
- Provide thought leadership to first line operations teams, i.e. customer support agents and fraud investigators
- Provide periodic updates to senior management on metrics and risks
- Work closely with Compliance, Operations, Product & Engineering teams to guide the development and iterative improvement of the fraud prevention and risk management infrastructure
Qualifications:
- BA/BSc in relevant field or commensurate years of experience
- 5+ years of experience in a Risk, Trust and Safety, Fraud Prevention team, preferably at a cryptocurrency exchange, fintech or financial institution
- A deep understanding of the prevalent types of financial and online fraud, including scams, carding, first party fraud, account takeovers etc.
- Strong knowledge of fraud detection technologies, risk management tools and vendor landscape
- Strong team player, ability to work with interdisciplinary teams
- A healthy balance of empathy and skepticism, and the ability to question one’s own assumptions
- Ability to think on the feet and maintain composure in difficult and complex situations
- Roll-up-the-sleeves, no-task-is-too-small-attitude; willingness to do what’s necessary to ensure the safety of our customers
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of scripting & querying languages (e.g., Python, SQL)
- Working knowledge of digital assets and cryptocurrencies
