Assistant General Counsel, Product
What you'll do:
- Integrate into the day-to-day operations of our Product Team, providing legal, business and strategic advice. See around corners and creatively solve problems for the business as they plan, build, and execute on their product roadmap.
- Ensure product compliance with applicable U.S. and international laws and regulations, in close collaboration with Legal Team colleagues.
- Provide risk-based, business-oriented full product life-cycle counseling, from ideation and development to launch and operation.
- Provide practical, actionable legal input on the design of new digital product functionalities, DeFi tools, and infrastructure.  Work cross-functionally with stakeholders, including Partnerships, Marketing/Communications, Finance, Security and Operations.
- Advise on compliance obligations, including money transmission, KYC, consumer protection, and privacy laws, as they relate to self-hosted applications.
- Work with outside counsel where necessary for subject matter expertise or international support.
- Monitor relevant regulatory developments.
What you'll need:
- J.D. and currently licensed in a U.S. state with 7+ years of legal experience, preferably with in-house experience with a consumer financial services business, a fintech, bank or crypto/blockchain company.
- Experience counseling product teams in launching financial services or technology products, and have a clear understanding of the legal underpinnings supporting these products.
- A strong interest in digital currency, blockchain technology, and innovative constructs pioneered by decentralized applications, web3, and DeFi.
- Familiarity with consumer financial services regulation and agencies (FinCEN MSB, State MTLs & SEC) and consumer services and internet regulations and agencies.
- Experience with build-outs to support Anti Money Laundering (AML)/Know-your-customer (KYC) requirements, and regulated e-money and money transmission obligations.
- Be a team player with proven problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Practical risk assessment skills and the ability to work with teams to find mitigation options and provide results-oriented legal guidance.
- A sense of humor is a must!
Nice to haves:
- Deep knowledge of blockchain technology and Ethereum is preferred.
- Preferably, experience at both a law firm and in an in-house setting.
