Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

The Coinbase Institutional Research team creates market intelligence for institutional clients including but not limited to analyzing how crypto-relevant themes impact market behavior, building quantitative models on trade data, examining the tokenomics of various protocols, and following important macroeconomic trends. All research publications can be found here.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Deliver client-focused research on crypto markets by writing reports based on analysis of internal & external data and industry news.

  • Independently source and research crypto related topics to produce meaningful content for institutional investors focused on market sentiment, trading strategies and protocol-specific developments.

  • Keep abreast of financial and crypto market news flow, including analyzing implications; share commentary with stakeholders on an ad-hoc and regular basis.

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients through research and insights.

  • Develop and maintain quantitative models utilizing both market and on-chain data.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Minimum 5+ years relevant experience in an institutional or investment research (crypto, fixed income, FX, equities, portfolio strategy, macroeconomics, etc.) buy or sell-side role.

  • Experience writing in a professional capacity (e.g., crafting research notes).

  • Solid quantitative and analytical skills, including comfort manipulating large data sets in Python, SQL, and Excel.

  • Excellent communications (including presentation) skills and experience communicating technical material to both internal and external audiences.

  • Startup mentality, willing to work across the organization to get things done.

  • In-depth understanding of the financial services industry and a passion for technology.

  • Intellectual curiosity.

  • While this is a primarily remote role, ideally this team member will be willing to come into the New York office a few times a month.

Nice to haves:

  • Able to develop and articulate a sound point of view.

  • Passion for markets and/or crypto and digital assets.

  • Experience with Dune, Flipside, and/or other sources of on-chain data.

  • Understanding of blockchain architectural tradeoffs and limitations.

  • Familiarity with governance structures and upgrade processes.

  • Understanding of DeFi, CeFi, and TradFi market differences.

  • Working knowledge of GitHub for managing code repositories.
