Web3 Smart Contract Tech Lead — Digital Fiat (Knox Networks)

Overview

Knox Networks is a wholesale and retail banking platform that supports programmable money and digital identity solutions.

Our high-speed interbank platform enables the transactions and settlements of programmable money between central banks, commercial banks and consumers. The underlying database can then be used to provide secure analytics to wholesale stakeholders and support digital identity and banking aggregator solutions for consumers. We are a vertically-integrated, open source software platform that focuses on balancing privacy, scalability and interoperability (with existing and future platforms) across our stakeholder pipeline.

We are looking for an experienced backend tech lead to help us build and develop the back end architecture of an interbank platform where programmable digital fiat will be transacted.

Description

As a Smart Contract Tech Lead, you will work closely with the rest of the engineering team and product managers, and be responsible for implementing and designing the smart contract architecture for an interbank platform and programmable digital fiat.

The position is based in New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA with full-time salary and benefits. Engineers will be based in the office and may work remotely depending on the situation.

Key Responsibilities, Prioritized*:

  • Quarterly OKR setting, against key responsibilities below to be set with direct supervisor
  • Engineering Smart Contract Architecture

1. Create and document the relevant requirements and use cases for our MVP.
2. Lead technical direction for smart contract and backend architecture by architecting on/off chain interactions as well as analyzing performance and trade offs of using external third party APIs.
3. Work closely with other engineers to build out the smart contract architecture to power a variety of applications, such as a interbank platform transaction engine and the integration of programmable digital fiat.
4. Build, maintain and test core components of our architecture including managing on and off-chain data ingestion, minting/issuance of tokens, and platform tokenomics.

  1. Frontend and Backend Integration

    1. Build strong, resilient, and robust APIs, libraries, and services to power our payment integration services: traditional payment rails, crypto payment rails, and other external SDKs.
    2. Work closely with the frontend and smart contracts team to integrate the data, engine, and communication layers with a traditional Web2 frontend as well as handle integrations from the blockchain.
  2. Bolster Engineering Practices

    1. Collaborate closely with all engineering teams to ensure consistency in understanding of technical requirements and overall work quality.
    2. Provide mentorship to your peers throughout the wider engineering team through code reviews and education on best practices.
    3. Assist the engineering team in set-up, maintenance and ongoing development of continuous build/ integration infrastructure.
    4. Train and support developers to align on source control, through build automation, merge resolution, CI/CD, test automation, deployment based on tools usage and policies, standards.
    5. Help due diligence open source technology partnerships.
    6. Support interviewing of other engineering members and help them onboard onto the Knox team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extended Web3 and Web2 Knowledge: Candidates must have the technical and strategic acumen to understand:
    • Custodial Wallet Solutions
    • On/off chain data storage and retrieval mechanisms
    • Tokenomics, as well as minting and issuance of tokens
    • Writing native smart contracts in the EVM as well as developing them from scratch
  • Widespread development knowledge:
    • Experience with React, Redux, and other various frontend technologies is a plus.
    • Version control experience with Git/GitHub and branching methodologies, code review tools, CI tools, JIRA, Confluence, etc.
    • Great with unit and functional testing and debugging.
  • Preferred Crypto and FinTech Awareness: Understanding and experience working in the financial industry, Familiarity with any of the following: payments, digital wallets, clearing and settlement, privacy, security etc. Understanding and strong interest in cryptocurrencies and the blockchain industry.
  • Comfort in ambiguous unstructured environments: Building something new comes with significant ambiguity, and we want people that can thrive in that ambiguity. ****The environment is highly dynamic, and there are no precedents.

Requirements

  • Received a bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or a related technical field, and proven excellence in previous roles.
  • 3+ years of experience with Solidity, Go, and/or Rust.
  • A deep understanding of the Ethereum Virtual Machine.
  • Prior experience deploying complex smart contract systems to the Ethereum mainnet.
  • Be based at the office in New York or LA and be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally on a regular basis as needed.
