The Legal Associate position is an exciting opportunity to join a growing blockchain company as we work to build Web 3. The successful candidate will work with the EVP Legal and the Chief Legal Officer supporting professionals in a high speed environment with this exciting emerging technology.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Providing support in monitoring and advising the business on emerging legal and regulatory risks and opportunities.
  • Working with the sales team on contract drafting and negotiations.
  • Assisting and working cross functionally as we build out compliance and risk teams as necessary.
  • Working with outside counsel as appropriate.
  • Negotiating, drafting and advising on commercial contracts, including service provider agreements, index licenses, technology agreements, service agreements, consultancy agreements and marketing agreements.
  • Working directly with internal and external clients in the contract negotiation process including ensuring that sales and the business comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and company policies.
  • Working collaboratively and providing input to new and existing policies and procedures to ensure that any changes to processes are within the permitted legal and regulatory framework.

Qualifications

  • A commercially minded, fully qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Ontario (but will consider other Canadian provinces).
  • 3 - 5 years’ post qualification experience with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel in a related industry..
  • Comfortable in dealing with various commercial law matters, including commercial contract negotiations, drafting and reviewing.
  • Familiar with performing multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • A high level of understanding of processes, policies and key relationships, with an ability to monitor, design and continuously improve processes.
  • Awareness of relevant regulation.
  • Interest in blockchain/cryptocurrencies/Web 3.
