About the Company

Gemini is a global crypto and Web3 platform founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in 2014, offering a wide range of simple, reliable, and secure crypto products and services to individuals and institutions in over 70 countries. Our mission is to unlock the next era of financial, creative, and personal freedom by providing trusted access to the decentralized future. We envision a world where crypto reshapes the global financial system, internet, and money to create greater choice, independence, and opportunity for all — bridging traditional finance with the emerging cryptoeconomy in a way that is more open, fair, and secure. As a publicly traded company, Gemini is poised to accelerate this vision with greater scale, reach, and impact.

The Department: Compliance

Compliance at Gemini is a team dedicated to managing the next generation of financial crime prevention in a complex and evolving regulatory environment. We are a diverse group of technology, legal, and operational professionals who develop new approaches to solving classic problems using cutting edge tools and processes.

The Role: Head of KYC

This role is for the Head of KYC as part of the Financial Crimes Compliance (“FCC”) reporting directly to the Head of Financial Crimes Compliance. The Financial Crimes Compliance team operates in a shared services model, providing compliance advisory and operations services for all Gemini regulated entities. As the primary subject matter expert for KYC globally, you will be responsible for the policy, strategy, and execution of the KYC program.

A successful candidate in this role has a proven track record of both establishing and maintaining a global scalable KYC program and overseeing KYC operations. The ability to operate comfortably in ambiguity, quickly adapting to changing priorities by taking innovative approaches to solving complex challenges in collaboration with senior compliance, product and operations leaders is a must.

This role is required to be in person twice a week at either our Seattle, WA, New York City, NY, or Miami, FL office.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the strategic direction of the global KYC program and operations, including policy, program implementation, and support on US and global KYC requirements related to existing and new legal entities, assets, and products.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and operations to implement all aspects of the Global KYC Program, including, but not limited to, design and execution on enterprise-wide strategic solutions, and new product and jurisdiction launches.
  • Drive KYC initiatives by developing and contributing to actionable roadmaps and ensuring timely delivery of projects and initiatives.
  • Oversight of KYC issue management and resolution, inclusive of advisory on corrective actions and systemic enhancements.
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of global KYC regulatory requirements, changes, and best practices.
  • Provide oversight of First Line KYC functions, including low-risk customer onboarding and alert review processes.
  • Manage a team of Second Line Compliance analysts responsible for reviewing onboarding escalations, conducting periodic KYC refresh exercises, and Enhanced Due Diligence (“EDD”) reviews.
  • Provide senior management and executive level reporting on KPIs and KYC Program health.
  • Support regulatory exams, audits, and independent reviews related to the global KYC program.
  • Contribute to the Annual Compliance Risk Assessment.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience managing, designing, and implementing a KYC program for a financial institution, with a strong preference for candidates with digital assets and/or fintech experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of global anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and sanctions risks and regulations (e.g., BSA, 4MLD, FinCEN CDD Rule, OFAC Sanctions, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Deep experience assessing and implementing next-gen reg-tech solutions to optimize onboarding and periodic refresh.
  • Strong project management experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive experience managing relationships with cross functional teams.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership presence and strategic thinking.
  • Knowledge of and interest in the cryptocurrency industry.
  • BA/BS degree. Advanced degree preferred (JD/MBA/MA etc.).
