Role Overview

Vana seeks a Senior Protocol Engineer with a proven track record writing smart contracts and working with distributed systems to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal for those who have demonstrated expertise in creating and managing decentralized network protocols, including the ability to independently spin up testnets. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the technical foundations necessary for secure, efficient, and scalable blockchain and decentralized systems.

Note: we specify “blockchain and decentralized” as there are two components of the Vana network: the governance and financialization layer, which lives on-chain, and the user-hosted personal servers which store private data, which are distributed but not on-chain. This role is primarily focused on the governance and financialization layer.

Key Responsibilities

• Smart Contract Development: Develop, manage, and maintain core smart contracts to govern data exchanges and model collectives.
• Full Lifecycle Ownership: Take full responsibility for the complete release cycle, encompassing design, implementation, deployment on testnets, conducting audits, and final release.
• Collaboration: Engage proactively across the engineering team, and with product, design, and legal teams.
• Technical Leadership: Act as a beacon of knowledge and guidance, sharing best practices for working with smart contracts and decentralized technologies.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in engineering
• Experience writing and deploying smart contracts
• Experience with at least one of: Solidity, Rust, or Go.
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest developments in blockchain and decentralized technology.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Active participation in the crypto community, with contributions to open-source projects.
• Deep understanding of distributed and P2P networks.
• Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment, where rapid prototyping and iterative development are practiced.
