Beam (https://onbeam.com) is looking for a Design Director to lead day to day design operations.
We’ve just overhauled the brand: bespoke type, bespoke iconography, and a lean design system begging to be used.
We're on the look out for an experienced design leader and manager who can turn that toolkit into best-in-class design for Beam.

What the role actually is:
- You’re the day-to-day owner of design. Four direct reports to start; you’ll grow the team where needed and rely on a group of extremely talented contractors.
- You report to the Creative Director (who will support in terms of vision and direction) and the Chief Operating Officer. After getting up to speed you will run execution without hand-holding.
- You translate asks from Marketing, Product, and Engineering into a clear weekly sprint board, keep weekly stand-ups tight, and run regular 1-on-1s. While managing workloads.
- You design! Jump into Figma, refine type, tweak, ship, advise, build, etc. You will work with graphic designers, illustrators, type designers, 3d artists and more to make Beam one of the best brands in the world.
- You will protect the bar: bespoke craft (the philosophy at Beam), zero office politics (you will quickly be terminated if so), a desire to learn, and a general desire for excellence. If you want to create and own an impactful brand and not be stuck in corporate bs this is your dream job.
- You will be kind. And know how to get the most out of, and upskill the designers you work with.
Must-have:
- Management experience or experience leading a team
- Crypto fluency Wallet flows, token logic, on-chain UX - no learning curve.
- Track record in both product and brand/graphic work The job is 50 / 50 and understanding both is crucial.
- EU-time availability (±2 h CET) This doesn't mean you need to be in Europe (we have people working in East Asia, but on European hours - with a bit of leeway)
- Bias to action Beam moves quickly; spectators slow us down.
Nice-to-have (but genuinely helpful)
- Experience rolling out new design systems company-wide.
- Comfort directing motion/3-D to push visuals beyond static.
- Past life in a high-growth startup or crypto company.
