BattleFly Creative Director (Web3 PvP Game)

Compensation: $140k - $200k

Location: Remote

BattleFly is a web3 game studio founded in December 2021.  Our mission is to become a “bluechip” web3 game, combining imagination and social play with blockchain technology.


Thus far, BattleFly has released two games: Racer, an endless runner mini-game, and Battlegrounds, a strategic resource management auto-battler.  We have used these games to experiment with crypto-native game loops, fine-tune our combat engine, and build a robust platform that has everything from questing and achievements to XP rewards.  We also have a new tournament mode launching later in 2023.


Our current creative look and feel was developed quickly, and has now reached a point where we see it as a constraint to the long-term success of our games. Our ambition is to build a cross-platform game that connects with a global audience, and our IP needs to be distinctive, collectable and reflect our desire to break new ground.  Above all, we want it to reflect the fun and imagination of our team. 


As such, we are on the hunt for an experienced creative director to join our team.


What you’ll bring to the team:


  • Experience leading the creative direction of games and/or digital experiences;


  • Deep insight into what makes successful games connect with audiences, with a particular focus on what makes them fun and engaging experiences;


  • Passion and excitement for applying yourself to building a successful game within an indie web3 studio;


  • Excellent soft skills; you are able to navigate the day to day ups and downs of working with a distributed, passionate team;


  • An up to date knowledge of design trends and the commercial aspect of gaming – the ability to understand and articulate the relevance of these to your own work; versatile experience in working with Product Managers and teams, and ability to use expertise and knowledge to empower decision making to directors and leads.


Responsibilities:


  • As BattleFly’s Creative Director, you will have responsibility for the development of our gaming IP, and the evolution of our brand in web3 gaming;


  • Working with senior leadership, you will develop the future direction of BattleFly’s creative, help make the hard calls on what to ditch and what to reinvent, and above all be creatively excited and engaged in creating unforgettable and fun experiences for our players;


  • Manage design leadership on all BattleFly games, and assist in the development of creative content strategies (skins, hats and other collectables);


  • Work with our partner ecosystems and Product team to identify areas where we can connect IP, and create discoverable and collectable content;


  • Provide expert advice in building a design and creative team that can execute on your vision (and be responsible for their work);


  • Work with production and operations teams to manage staffing and milestone planning;


  • Use your wealth of experience and strong communication skills to inspire a new benchmark of creativity within BattleFly - fostering good working practices and a positive, collaborative working environment.


Benefits


The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position is between $140,000 - $200,000 per annum.
