Android Engineering Intern - Brave USA

About Brave

Brave browser for Android is on a strong growth trajectory. Brave is receiving great reviews in the Google Play store and we’re just getting started. Work together with our developers and privacy/security experts to help us take our browser to the next level.

Job brief

This is a remote internship for 2022. Your focus will be to write and ship code which helps our codebase as we embrace and move towards development using Kotlin in our Android product.

  • Develop and maintain the Android version of the Brave web browser.
  • Write maintainable code, applying testing responsibly. Collaborate with others on the brave-core team (desktop and Android) to formulate best practices.
  • Work alongside privacy and security experts to help provide a secure and private experience for our users.
  • Work with the open source community on GitHub – help guide contributors by being transparent about our work items and helping review externally submitted work. Contribute back to the community when possible (improving an open source library we use, etc).

Project overview

Integrate Kotlin into our Chromium pipeline

Candidate expectations

  • Be pursuing BS/MS in computer science or a related field
  • Have experience with Android development (Java, Kotlin)
  • Android Studio and/or Eclipse IDE experience
  • Comfortable working in an open source setting
  • A passion for helping protect users’ privacy and security

Over the course of the internship you’ll experience Brave’s development process first hand. We do not expect you to be proficient with all of these tools & processes when applying. But you should be amenable to learning and working in this sort of environment.

  1. Brave’s work revolves around the web platform.
  2. Brave develops open source software in public on GitHub.
  3. Brave is a mostly-distributed team who communicate mainly over Slack.
  4. Brave goes out of our way not to monitor or surveil the people who use the things we make.

Working at Brave

  • Industry-leader in privacy, with a research and engineering team that’s innovating everyday to keep people safer online and beat Big Tech
  • Highly competitive salaries & benefits, and generous home-office stipends
  • Fully remote team (no office, no commute)
  • Welcoming, humble, ridiculously smart teammates, and a truly flat org structure
  • Opportunity to get in early at a hyper-growth company, and revolutionize the web
  • Oh, and did we mention Brendan, our CEO & co-founder, invented JavaScript?
