Our projects include Mezo, the Bitcoin economic layer, Keep (now Threshold) Network, a privacy protocol for public blockchains, Fold, for earning Bitcoin on your purchases in the physical and virtual worlds, Taho, a community owned and operated cryptocurrency wallet, and Embody, a fully encrypted period tracking app.

About the Head of Accounting role
Thesis* is looking for a highly talented and thoughtful Head of Accounting to join the team and manage the operations of the accounting department, on a full-time permanent basis. While we are focused on someone with a strong accounting background, the role has ample room to develop into strategic finance, crypto, fundraising, and other startup finance growth areas.
You will be reporting to the VP of Finance, who has worked as a CFO in the crypto space since 2017, and is a former investment banker and hedge fund manager. Additionally, you will interact regularly with our broad, global team, that has built several core products within the crypto space.
What You'll Do
- Accounting
- Oversee end-to-end accounting function including month-end close, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Solve complex crypto accounting challenges
- Oversee and manage accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Author internal policy documents to enable transparency and scaling
- Help the company level-up to be audit ready
- Financial Planning & Analysis
- Create management, investor, and board level reporting to tell the financial story of the company
- Work cross-functionally with business leads to develop budgets
- Own the forecast model to track runway, budget vs actuals, liquidity, etc.
- FinOps Tool Stack
- Own and manage FinOps tools, including documentation and education for the company
- Research and lead ERP migration to support our growing complexity
- Tax & Compliance
- Oversee and manage federal, state, and local tax compliance

- Treasury Management
- Effectively manage cash, cash-equivalents, AR, AP, and tokens to achieve the financial objectives
of the studio and its projects

Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience
- Ideally 2-3 years in Big 4 accounting, followed by experience in-house at a corporate
- Startup and/or crypto experience a plus (but not a dealbreaker)
- Comprehensive experience with US GAAP
- Experience with running an ERP migration
- CPA preferred
- CET to PST timezones

- Proven hands-on leadership, not just managerial experience. You must be willing/able to get

points of failure, and set a plan into action - Ownership of decisions, but do not try to own every decision in the company
- Stellar personal reputation and professional credibility to go along with great industry contacts
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage a heavy workload, providing visibility into the workflow
- A high degree of personal initiative, interpersonal skills, creativity and the ability to listen,
communicate, write, learn, and facilitate processes within a complex, fast-moving organization - Ability to adapt to/succeed in a rapidly evolving industry
Not Your Normal Startup...
Our business model is not for the faint of heart! We have many complex challenges to solve on a daily basis and we strive for excellence. This makes for an intellectually rigorous and dynamic environment. Some of the key things that make working on the Finance team at Thesis 10x more interesting than anywhere else:
- We have crypto on the books. This means you’ll need to explore accounting policies for tokens (including ones that the company created that may not have an observable price yet), crypto compensation, tax optimization, fundraising, building and launching tokens, etc.
- As a venture studio, we function as a holding company of multiple portfolio companies. We must balance resource allocation, cash flow, reporting, and more across multiple entities and parentco. Did someone say the word intercompany?
- We are scaling fast. Our headcount is expected to more than double by year-end. Growth means old systems need rethinking, new tools will need to be integrated, and most importantly, there is room for professional growth for those who rise to the occasion
Location
All Thesis roles are remote-first, with a preference for Europe & Americas time zones.
