YOUR PURPOSE

Coin Metrics is looking for an experienced Principal Backend Software Engineer to help us plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee the technical activities in the various software engineering teams at Coin Metrics. This individual will lead the delivery of valuable, production-quality software to clients, increase the reliability and resilience of our current applications, technically manage several teams of software engineers, and report to the VP of Engineering.

YOUR VALUE

• Driving engineering and technology excellence and consistency across multiple software engineering teams.
• Ensuring release integrity by defining and refining engineering processes and practices such as version control, build pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, approvals, etc.
• Building and enriching great teams who are focused on delivering high-quality results with speed.
• Developing and communicating achievable, but aggressive technical goals for software engineers.
• Providing constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Identifying promising opportunities to improve engineering velocity through systems and tools.
• Expert advising engineers on software design and system architecture.
• Conducting code reviews.
• Ensuring that engineering work efforts are well estimated and that progress and status of the teams are well tracked in GitLab and communicated to project management, product management, and senior management.
• Partnering with Product, Project, and Research teams to ensure priorities are well understood and communicated to the engineering teams.
• Identifying, recommending, implementing, and communicating new technologies, systems, and processes to improve engineering velocity and application reliability.
• Maintaining and evolving an engineering culture that emphasizes ownership, autonomy, quality, and speed of execution.
• Applying technical insight that informs, enables, and drives product innovation.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE

• Interest in blockchain technologies.
• Deep backend software engineering knowledge and excellent troubleshooting abilities.
• Strong focus on reliability.
• Experience with the architecture and implementation of distributed backend applications, multi-datacenter configurations, databases, API delivery systems, and web services using Bare-metal servers and/or Kubernetes.
• Willingness to mentor technical team leads.
• Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Experience leading engineering teams.
• Experience designing and presenting implementable solutions to technical and non-technical teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Kotlin/Java and SQL.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, Gradle, Ansible, Python, Grafana, and Linux.
• Supervisory and leadership skills.
