The opportunity: This can be a Remote positionÂ
Uphold is looking for a Senior Privacy Program Manager to join our Information Governance, Privacy and Security team. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity where you’ll get to further enhance our privacy and data protection program to strengthen customer trust and maintain compliance with rapidly changing global privacy requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for continuing to mature and enhance Uphold’s privacy program along with enabling privacy and compliance by design. You will help lead the charge in evolving how we develop best practices and product solutions to reduce risk and ensure protection and privacy of sensitive customer data. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and prioritize risk remediation and report on the overall privacy risk posture of the company. You will operationalize the privacy program to ensure we can effectively support data enquiries. You will partner closely with Legal, Information Security, Engineering, Technology, Product, Data Insights and Operations teams along with other internal partners.
We are looking for an experienced leader who brings operational scale and deep privacy and compliance expertise to lead and expand an industry leading privacy program. This role reports to the SVP, Information Governance, Privacy and Security.
What you’ll be doing primarily:
- Manage, maintain, and refine Uphold’s data processing activities, enhance privacy strategy, and drive implementation and enforcement of privacy policies, procedures, and controls.
- Define and improve testing procedures to measure the risk and effectiveness of privacy controls, including performing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
- Proactively engage and partner with business and technology teams to ensure data protection and privacy standards are met.
- Own and drive various program responsibilities or initiatives that may periodically come up or need attention.
- Educate teams and help drive privacy as a mindset across engineering teams and the organization.
- Identify areas of improvement in local practices relative to managing data privacy.
- Educate leaders and team members on privacy and data protection requirements.
- Manage data subject access requests (DSAR)
Required qualifications:
- Masters or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years experience in Privacy, Information Security, Compliance or Technical Program Management.
- High-level proficiency in GDPR, CCPA, GLBA and other global data protection laws.
- Experience conducting data privacy assessments and driving implementation of technical data protection standards (e.g. ISO 27701, ISO 27018).
- Attention to detail around controls, metrics, accountability and operational excellence.
- Familiarity with the Fintech industry and nature of its data processing activities.
- Ability to develop structure, lead execution, and measure performance within various complex projects, teams and environments.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills including the ability to simplify key messages and promote technical and personal credibility with internal and external customers and stakeholders, and with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Positive attitude, team player, adaptable, resourceful, and self-starter who is able to work independently.
- Privacy and data security certifications preferred (CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM)
- Fluent written and oral English skills.
Bonus if you have:
- Knowledge of data security technologies, such as encryption, access control, access management, data management, threat management, and incident response is a plus.
- Presided over or participated in privacy by design work.
- Secure SDLC
- Experience in risk management.
