About the role We are seeking a Data Scientist to design, implement, and optimize pipelines utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI technologies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both generative and non-generative machine learning techniques, with a strong focus on natural language processing (NLP). This role involves end-to-end development, including data processing, LLM fine-tuning, implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and deploying AI agents. Key Responsibilities As a  Data Scientist at 21.co Technologies, you will:

Lead the development and deployment of pipelines leveraging LLMs and generative AI for advanced text-based applications, providing technical direction and mentoring team members. Design and implement RAG systems, integrating external knowledge sources with LLMs. Fine-tune and customize LLMs for specific use cases, ensuring optimal performance and adaptability. Process and prepare large-scale text datasets for training, testing, and evaluation of models. Build and monitor systems for evaluating and maintaining the quality, fairness, and safety of deployed LLMs. Develop and implement AI agents capable of autonomous task execution and decision-making. Apply non-generative machine learning techniques to complement and enhance generative AI systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align AI solutions with business needs and objectives. Stay at the forefront of advancements in generative AI, NLP, and machine learning, integrating new techniques as appropriate.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in Data Science and Natural Language Processing (NLP) Demonstrated expertise in LLMs and generative AI technologies (e.g., GPT, BERT, Transformer models), including fine-tuning and RAG pipelines. Solid understanding of non-generative machine learning techniques, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in ML libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Jax or Hugging Face Transformers. Hands-on experience with AI model monitoring, evaluation, and lifecycle management. Familiarity with building and deploying AI agents in real-world applications. Knowledge of data engineering workflows and tools for large-scale data processing. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  This role is based in Zürich and will be expected to work from our Zürich office in a hybrid model Monday - Wednesday.
