Mycelium is a market-leading technology company leveraging blockchain technology to make financial markets more efficient. We build financial market infrastructure on public blockchains that is open, transparent, and accessible. We specialise in data provision and financial smart contracts. Mycelium has two core products leveraging financial smart contracts: Perpetual Swaps and Perpetual Pools.
We believe that the growing use of blockchains in financial technology will benefit everyone, and are committed to realising this vision.
We are looking for an empathetic product thinker and experienced executor to join our core product. You’ll be the subject matter expert on creating intuitive and exceptional customer experiences.
At Mycelium we work as partners across Design, Product Management, and Engineering to collaborate as respected experts in our fields. We are obsessed about our customers and passionate about our mission. As the most senior member of the Mycelium design team, you’ll have the opportunity to set the best practice foundations, culture, and tools to build a global brand. You should be experienced, or just passionate, about Web3, DeFi, and blockchain.
Our HQ is located in Brisbane, Australia but this position is open to those in the APAC region (remote work).
Responsibilities
- Create aesthetically excellent and minimalism leaning solutions.
- Develop an understanding of our users and their needs through user research, experimentation, workshopping, or sketching/visualisation.
- Collaborate and prototype with Product Managers and Engineers in the end-to-end design process - from research and ideation to implementation and iteration.
- Create the pace, foundation, and structure as the most senior member of the Mycelium design team.
Requirements
- 10+ years design experience with demonstrable results.
- Highly empathetic and geared to solving user problems, rather than flashy features.
- Experience with conducting and applying customer research, including design thinking, prototyping, and conceptual modelling.
- Shareable portfolio of work you personally designed and shipped, but also with examples of work of your team and their achievements.
- A mastery of your craft, validated through Conceptual Thinking & Modelling, User-centeredness and analysis, and Technical & Product Knowledge.
- Collaborate effectively with other functions, including engineering and product.
- Importantly, you have strong executional skills too, and are adept in modern tools such as Figma and Notion.
- Experience working with blockchain and finance is a plus but not required.

How do I get a job at DeFi?
Getting a job in the DeFi (decentralized finance) industry can be a competitive process, but there are a few steps you can take to increase your chances of finding a job in this field:
- Build up your skills and knowledge: To work in DeFi, you'll likely need to have a strong understanding of blockchain technology, as well as other related technologies such as smart contracts and cryptocurrency. Consider taking online courses or earning a degree in a relevant field to build up your skills and knowledge.
- Network with industry professionals: Attend meetups and conferences related to DeFi and make connections with professionals in the industry. Networking can be a valuable way to learn about job openings and get your foot in the door at a DeFi company.
- Create a strong online presence: Many DeFi companies will look at your online presence (such as your LinkedIn profile and personal website) when considering you for a job. Make sure to showcase your skills and accomplishments online and keep your profile up to date.
- Apply for relevant job openings: Keep an eye out for job openings at DeFi companies and apply for positions that align with your skills and experience. Apply for DeFi Jobs without Experience. Tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job you're applying for and highlight any relevant experience or skills you have.
- Consider internships or volunteer work: DeFi Internships or volunteer work can be a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable experience in the DeFi industry. Many companies also offer internships to students, so consider applying for an internship if you're still in school.
- Be persistent: keep trying if you don't get a job right away. It can take time to find the right opportunity, but with the right skills and determination, you can land a job in the DeFi industry.
