Join the Synthetix Core Contributor community as a Frontend Engineer and help build the future of DeFi. The team is currently located in multiple time zones but this role is in person in Sydney, Australia only. If you are not located in Sydney, you must be willing to relocate for this role.

Synthetix is an open-source derivatives liquidity protocol on Ethereum, Optimism, and Base, which enables collateral on-chain to back stablecoins, spot synthetic assets, perpetual futures markets, and more. Synthetix Perps has generated over $60B in volume and is rapidly scaling with cross-chain deployments and increased activity.

Synthetix has a thriving ecosystem of projects that are integrated with the protocol, building bots, front-end applications, and smart contracts/protocols that have integrated with Synthetix markets and liquidity functionality. This includes Kwenta, dHedge, Thales, Overtime, and many more to come.

We’re driven by startup values - we iterate fast, test often, and automate wherever possible. We have some of the most complex dApps on Ethereum powering an ecosystem of other protocols and are constantly building new interfaces and making improvements to existing assets.

Historically, we’ve provided a lot of the building blocks for the crypto ecosystem, but we’re refocusing our attention on creating incredible user experiences across our product range.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the wide variety of Synthetix ecosystem dapps working closely with smart contract engineers and the UX/UI designer
  • Create and optimize end-to-end and component tests for existing and new functionality in Cypress and unit tests with Jest
  • Write code documentation developed by Core Contributors
  • Build front-end applications with TypeScript and React that allow users to interact with the protocol

Ideal candidates:

  • Have solid, demonstrable work (on GitHub or otherwise) with Typescript / Javascript / ReactJS - 5 years or more
  • Very comfortable troubleshooting issues with front-end apps for smart contracts
  • Have experience with trading systems and/or smart contracts
  • Have strong familiarity with the broader Ethereum DeFi ecosystem
  • Written extensive automated tests and familiar with CI tooling such as CircleCI
  • Collaborative in approach and happy to work with others on projects
  • Intellectually curious and enjoys moving fast
  • Willing to work in person in Sydney, Australia
  • Willing to be flexible with availability to accommodate the fast-paced nature of the cryptocurrency market and open to occasional travel for events

Synthetix Will:

  • Pay monthly stipends in USDC
  • Offer incentives package in SNX
  • Pay for travel expenses to events & off-sites
  • Connect you to a thriving community
  • Make you feel welcome!

If the above sounds interesting and you’d like to talk with the team, please apply and make sure to attach your CV and a link to your Github account.

What does a front-end developer in web3 do?

A front-end developer in web3 typically works on developing and building the user-facing part of applications that are built on blockchain technology

This can include tasks such as designing and implementing the user interface, using libraries like web3.js and Ethers.js, creating and maintaining the overall look and feel of the application, and ensuring that the app is accessible and easy to use for the end user

Front-end developers in web3 may also be responsible for integrating the application with the underlying blockchain network, as well as working with other members of the development team to create a seamless and intuitive user experience.
