About Nexus:
Nexus is a $25M Series A startup based in San Francisco and the company behind the Nexus Project, an ambitious scientific initiative to enable verifiable computation at Internet scale. By leveraging zero-knowledge proofs, we are building a new verifiable Internet where truth, privacy, and security are safeguarded by cryptographic proofs.
Nexus has developed and open-sourced the Nexus zkVM, a general-purpose system for verifiable computation that integrates decades of research in mathematics, cryptography, and computer science. To scale this, we are building the Nexus Network, a global supercomputing system designed to compute trillions of proofs per second by distributing computations across a planetary-scale network.
Role Overview:
As a Staff Product Designer at Nexus, you will play a critical role in shaping the design and user experience across all facets of Nexus as a project, product, and company. You will lead the design of network and mathematical visualizations, network explorers, prover and mobile frontends, while exploring creative and artistic expressions of Nexus’ core ideas like supercomputing, cryptography, and mathematics.
This is a senior role where you will have the autonomy to take initiative, establish design practices, and guide the product UX/UI direction. You’ll collaborate closely with a small, highly talented team in a flat organizational structure, working alongside world-class engineers, scientists, and mathematicians.
Your work will impact hundreds of users across more than 20 countries, and you’ll play a key role in fostering a culture that values fast shipping, rapid iteration, and design excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design across Nexus products and interfaces, including network visualizations, mathematical visualizations, network explorers, prover frontends, and mobile frontends.
Collaborate with the Brand Design Director and VP of Brand & Design to guide design strategy and establish Nexus' visual identity across all touchpoints.
Experiment with artistic and creative expressions of Nexus’ core concepts such as computation, cryptography, supercomputing, and zero-knowledge proofs.
Build and maintain design practices that foster collaboration between designers, engineers, and product teams.
Drive the UX/UI direction, ensuring a seamless, user-centered experience across all Nexus products.
Inspire a fast-paced design process, ensuring quick iteration and constant improvements, while maintaining high standards of design excellence.
Collaborate cross-functionally primarily with engineers and the leadership to align design with broader product goals.
Qualifications:
Experience: 7+ years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio of work that includes UI/UX design, particularly in data-driven visualizations or highly technical products.
Creative Vision: Proven ability to integrate artistic and creative design with complex, technical concepts like computation, mathematics, and cryptography.
Leadership: Experience in a senior design role, with the ability to take initiative, set design direction, and mentor junior designers.
Collaboration: Strong ability to work across teams, especially in close collaboration with engineering, product, and leadership.
Design Tools: Expertise in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant software.
Familiarity with Frontend Tools: Nexus engineers work with various frontend frameworks, such as React, TypeScript, React Native, Flutter, NextJS and more. Critical to this role is to work in close collaboration cycles directly with engineers to effectively implement designed interfaces, and build a composable frontend design system.
Why Nexus?
Be a part of a fast-growing, innovative startup pushing the boundaries of verifiable computation and Internet security.
Work in a high-talent environment with leading experts in mathematics, cryptography, and engineering.
Shape the design of a revolutionary product with global reach, influencing the future of the verifiable Internet.
Competitive compensation and benefits, along with the opportunity to work in a flat organization where you are a key contributor.
If you’re passionate about design and excited by the opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, science, and art, we’d love to hear from you!

What does a product designer do?
A product designer is responsible for creating and designing the physical and visual aspects of a product, with the aim of enhancing its functionality, usability, and aesthetics
This involves a broad range of tasks, such as researching and analyzing customer needs, designing user interfaces, creating sketches and prototypes, testing and refining designs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the final product meets the intended user needs and business goals
A product designer must have a deep understanding of design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and technological advancements in order to create products that are both innovative and functional
They must also have excellent communication skills, as they work closely with engineers, marketing teams, and other stakeholders to ensure that the product is developed on time, within budget, and meets the desired quality standards
Product designers work in a variety of industries, such as consumer electronics, furniture, automotive, fashion, and healthcare, to name a few
They may work for large corporations, small businesses, or as freelance designers, and often collaborate with other designers, engineers, and manufacturers to bring their designs to life
In web3, a product designer is responsible for designing and creating decentralized applications (dApps) and other products that leverage blockchain technology, smart contracts, and decentralized networks
This involves understanding the unique technical and functional requirements of web3 products, as well as the principles of decentralization, transparency, and user ownership
Web3 product designers need to be familiar with blockchain technology, smart contract programming languages, and decentralized networks, in order to design products that can operate effectively in a decentralized environment
They need to be able to work with developers and other stakeholders to ensure that the product is designed in a way that maximizes user control and ownership, while minimizing the potential for fraud or malicious activity
Web3 product designers may work on a range of products, such as decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces, decentralized social networks, and more
They may also work closely with blockchain developers, economists, and other specialists to create products that are both innovative and practical, while maintaining a strong focus on user experience.
