Overview
We're seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our team and lead the technical modernization of web3.career (Acquired in May 2025). You'll be responsible for maintaining and evolving a complex job board application while implementing best practices, improving performance, and ensuring scalability for our growing user base.

This role is perfect for an experienced Rails developer who enjoys working with legacy codebases, solving complex technical challenges, and driving architectural improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years of Ruby on Rails development experience
  • Strong experience with Rails 6.x/7.x and modern Rails patterns
  • Proficiency in Ruby 3.x and understanding of performance optimization
  • Experience with ActiveRecord, complex database relationships, and query optimization
  • Experience with Hotwire/Turbo and Stimulus.js
  • Knowledge of Webpacker and modern JavaScript build tools
  • Familiarity with Bootstrap and responsive web design
  • Understanding of ERB templates and Rails view patterns
  • Experience with web scraping and data processing

Desirable

  • Experience refactoring legacy Rails applications and reducing technical debt
  • Knowledge of service-oriented architecture and microservices patterns
  • Experience with API design and RESTful web services
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Scout APM, Bugsnag, PgHero)
  • Experience with Web3/blockchain technologies (nice to have, not required)
  • Knowledge of email marketing and notification systems
  • Familiarity with admin interfaces (Motor Admin, Blazer)

Job responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance our Rails 6.1 application with plans for Rails 7.x migration
  • Optimize performance for high-traffic job board operations and search functionality
  • Implement new features for job posting, user management, and payment processing
  • Refactor large models and controllers into maintainable components
  • Extract service objects and implement proper separation of concerns
  • Improve test coverage to industry standards (80%+)
  • Modernize authentication and authorization systems
  • Implement and maintain Content Security Policy and other security measures
  • Optimize database queries and eliminate N+1 problems
  • Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, and background job processing (GoodJob)
  • Monitor and improve application performance using Scout APM
